Baseline power for cleaning large creek boulders?

I need something powerful enough to clear off moss, dirt and weeds from a whole host of boulders ranging from a few feet in diameter to prehistoric drop stones infinitely larger. I already tried my consumer grade electric Sun Joe and no, it didn’t do the trick. Figure there are ten times as many I’d like to wash clean as shown in this photo.

Will a 3400 do the trick? Should I go super-max and go with the 4000? These are the two models at my local Home Depot. I figure both will PROBABLY do the trick, but I’m not sure one’s too weak and the other too powerful?

Anyone have experience with work like this?

Washing is for houses. Let nature be.

What’s the purpose here? This isn’t a job for a pressure washer. Use a weed wacker or leave it alone lol.

Original poster here. I think this is a great idea, quite frankly. I just bought this place. Old house being torn down, new house going up.

I want views of the creek up and down the hill which are, at least to me, astounding. Dirt and moss have, over the years, enabled the rocks to grow weeds sky high. What is shown here are pretty clean boulders. Further to the side and all the way up and down the creek they’re teaming with weeds - and not the nicest ones, either. I have poison ivy all over my arms and neck because of them plus the the thorns. There’s for sure plenty enough nature all around without them if they were gone from the rock faces.

So in sum, if I keep the rocks clean on top, it’ll be that much less weeding I have to do. And there’s plenty of it. So I just need a pressure washer capable. I already have a submersible pump, hose and generator.

Thank you to anyone has an opinion on the strength of the washer needed.

In all fairness you have landed on a forum for professional contractors. Maybe try a handyman forum or talk with someone at your local hardware store. Good luck with your project and you have a nice looking piece of property

thank you. I had no idea I was on a contractor’s forum.

Why not spray the weeds now that they are low with a round up or something similar? We use a product that we spray in the spring and keep everything down all year. Might have to spot spray here and there but it works.

I know you shouldnt spray at the waters edge, but on a dry day you should be able to do so pretty close without concern for runoff into the creek.

I love your backyard. Pressure alone will not do much but will make a difference and will take you FOREVER. If you do use chemicals be sure that it will not pollute the water. You need landscaping done before you do any cleaning.

Vinegar and dawn dish detergent will kill all the moss and vegetation on the rocks plus safe for the environment

Get the biggest washer you can afford, go with the 3.5 gpm with at least 3500 psi. Also buy what’s known as a turbo nozzle. Will help you a lot.

Where’s your property at? Looks like N. Ga with Kudzu

Like @Donut said, round up is what you are looking for. Use the Roundup 365 (grey bottle) concentrate. It’s pricey but it will kill anything you treat with it.

And like others have said stay away from the creek with that stuff. Anything you leach anywhere near that creek is going to pick up just a quick treatment and no ground saturation.

Also, if you are concerned with weeds coming back then get landscaping fabric and stake it into the ground using the metal two prong stakes.
