Banjo/Gator Clamps Restrictions

I inherited a partially set up 12v system when I bought my trailer. It has about 180’ of 1/2" yellow ag hose on. It also has Banjo clamps between the pump and the reel. The ID of the clamp through the barb is tiny relative to a 1/2" ID hose. I get some reduction but the barbed end is really thick walled. I’ve thought about drilling it out since there isn’t that much pressure but was interested to hear what if anything has been done by others. It seems (for good reason) everyone is trying to maximize flow but how do you get around a choke point like this? I do have it working now and the 5.5 GPM pump is flowing about 4 GPM through the 1/4" QC on the wand I made. There are bends but no 90’s per @Racer video on his set up. Thanks

Drilling it out would probably be fine. Did you check to see if there’s a larger I’d connection you could switch it out with.

Sounds stupid in my part but no, I didn’t check to see if they came with a thinner walled connector… It came with the rig I bought and I’ve never used them before, I’ve read a lot about others using them but can’t remember or find anyone asking or commenting on it.

4gpm per min pretty good at pressure. You should be getting at least 35’ from that. If it’s a 1/2" fitting, that should be the interior diameter of the hole. Measure it. Reason you usually have to heat your hose up and soap it to get it on. I use 5/8 hose from my pump to the reel though.

Not sure I’m getting 35’ it was so freaking windy (25+ mph) when I was setting it up it was hard to get a real feel for it. I was using the Jrod tips from my 4 GPM machine. The Ag hose is 1/2" I did have to heat the hose to get the barb in so it’s the “right” size just seems counterproductive for the ID to be necked down so much. I have 1/2" now but I will follow your lead on the 5/8" in and out of the pump. I may bypass running it through the reel anyway. The amount of rust flakes etc, that flushed out of it was unbelievable. I have already done it my high pressure lines. I do love the electric reels but now they are quickly moving towards pure storage.
