If you looked at the possible noreaster headed to parts of the country, you may (or may not) want to top off gas tanks and propane, oil, get some salt/calcium chloride whatever. I wouldn’t wait until Friday/Saturday, when the mobs clear everything out.
Even with the most intelligent AI models that everyone keeps prattling on about, they have no idea if my area is getting 5-8” of snow or 20-24”. Slight bit of difference.
You southern peeps might be getting, or not, bad ice storms, cold weather (for you), and maybe some snow.
Who knows. As they say it is better to have and not need, then need and not have.
Just thought I would throw it out there for those of you who are unaware of the possibility. I was alive during the “storm of the century” and it was an event. Not as bad as the weather scarers basically claiming it would end life as we know it, but it wasn’t fun.
We got absolutely hammered up here while I was away at work. Im talking record setting 80+ inches of snow just the last week of December. It has been wild up here.
Your roofs must be rated for heavy snow loads, 80” is a lot of weight, especially if it is the heavy wet kind and not the light fluffy stuff. Maybe you should do what pierre does and run a steam genny clearing snow.
What do you do? Hire a truck to haul it away? It isn’t like that is the last bit of snow you are going to get all winter. I don’t know where you would put it.
My forecast has changed 6 times in the last 3 days. Now we are only supposed to get 16-19 sunday and only 2-4 on monday. At least they are saying it will be the light fluffy stuff, will make removal so much easier.
I believe ratings are for 40-60 depending on what year your house was built. This was the first year I had my roof shoveled (I was out of town and no way was I having my significant other do that)
Ended up having a friend with a skid loader come and grab the remnants from roof in driveway and shove into the middle of our yard. Stacked high as the Dickens. A lot has washed away from rain now. It’s been an adventure. I’ve been gone for 6 weeks. Will be flying home tonight actually. I have a lot of maintenance to catch up on that’s gone to heck since I’ve been gone
There was a ton of cash I missed out on being out of town for this snow. I have officially gotten into the snow removal game for next year so will see how it goes. Spent an ungodly amount of money on a commercial snow thrower and bought a few different roof razors/rakes to play around with and see what works. My 30 inch super high output snowthrower I spent 3 grand on actually is going to be delivered tomorrow which means we will not get any more snow after that of course hahahahha
In my area everyone and their brother has a utv/side by side with a plow, trucks with plows, full fledged plow trucks with salt spreaders etc. The snow removal guys I talked to bid out removal in the fall and then pray it doesn’t snow, margins are tight. Every landscaper is a snow remover come winter. Almost none of them do roofs, so I think you are in the the perfect niche if you do roofs. I would imagine with the snow that you get that more people would be all over snow removal, but I have never lived there so I have no clue.
