Armstrong Clark

I’ll be using Amber semi transparent on this deck. Does anyone have a preferred wood putty / filler that they use on PT pine decks?

Hey Andrew your going to love the Armstrong Clark Amber semi transparent stain. It’s absolutely beautiful. As for the wood putty I wouldn’t know off hand what to suggest on that.

I think you’ll be better off replacing the board. Wood putty will be very noticeable. The color & texture of it will stand out unless you use a solid color stain. Just my opinion.

IPSofWR … Not sure about the putty but the deck sure cleaned up nice. What did you use on it? I haven’t found a cleaning method using chemicals that I am comfortable with yet. Going to try some stuff on my deck in the next couple of weeks I hope. Good luck on the staining. I just finish a deck yesterday that took over 12hrs to put on 2 coats of TWP cedartone. I lost my butt on that one but it was for a nice elderly couple that I have done a couple of projects for already. I told myself I will NEVER stain again without a helper or I will just get someone else to do it. Maybe I’m just too slow but I can’t get the hourly rate I can with washing houses.

Okay bud here’s what you need to do: talk to Jake Clark at Arm Clark. He basically filled in the very few holes that Charlie Soden left out concerning my training. I used F18 to clean and F8 to brighten, both from Pressure Tek. Took me 2 hours to do what you see there. Staining has yet to happen due to weather.

Do you just put f18 on downstream or pump sprayer how long do you let sit then do you just lightly rinse off what about brightner same thing also do i need to.protect the house with plastic for overspray any help is great i want to do my personal deck

Down stream about 4 to 6 oz per gall for f 18 , you should pre wet your surrounding areas & also rinse after wards. If the deck is just grey & weathered let it dwell for around 10 to 15 min.

Thanks. So if a little gets on vinyl it won’t hurt. Just wondering if I should put plastic up

I don’t, but that’s just me. I rinse a lot.

I pump sprayed the f18 on and the same with the f8. After pics kinda sucked due to camera issues but it turned out great.

OK thanks. It is amazing that you can do that without pressure. So how long do I have to let dry before using the brightner and stain. And do you have to use brightner if you are staining a dark color

Yes. You have to use the brightened not only for the brightening, but because it neutralizes the PH of the wood and preps it for stain

And I put my brightened on right after, let it dwell for 5-15 min and spray off. As far as stain ready here’s what you do: feel the side of the decking, if it’s still moist on the cut edge of the board, wait to stain. Once it’s dry, hit it

OK two more questions. Did you do any thing to prep house like put up plastic. Just wondering if this got on vinyl will it hurt it
And. What kind of stain do you recomend and where to buy. Thanks man

No I didn’t do any masking, but the wall was brick, so I wasn’t worried. As far as stain, Armstrong Clark is my go-to. But ready seal makes a good product as well. Oil based is the key.

Thanks a whole lot

Keep it coming bud. Don’t hesitate to ask. I’m new, but I’ve learned a whole lot from the other guys here.
