I have an apartment building to clean, but I am concerned about how SH will effect this stained wood. Stain is clearly already fading in areas. First thought is to walk away, any input?
My input: you need to find out if they want to clean and restore that wood or not. If No, wet the wood with lots of water before and during cleaning of the adjacent siding, and do your best to keep your SH off it.
If they want the wood parts cleaned/restored, the wood will take far longer than the rest of the siding.
I don’t recommend hosing the wood down with your bleach. It’ll be brighter but not cleaner, and in 6 or 12 months will be worse off for it.
Thank you. That’s what I was thinking. The stained wood is all over the place - between upper windows, adjacent fence, etc. I don’t see keeping SH off of it safely, and covering it up would be quite the task. Thanks for the input!
That wood is burnt black, it has been neglected for awhile. I don’t see how you could hurt it unless it is rotting too. It needs restored or replaced. From the pic it looks like knotty pine. Who knows, maybe the contractor used the wrong urethane on it and it is in good condition underneath. Some urethanes aren’t designed to be used in exterior applications and they allow the wood to blacken quite quickly.
