Anywhere local to get 3/8" bulkhead?

I need to connect a whip from my water feed reel to my buffer tank to supply the tank. I cant find a 3/8 bulkhead anywhere to screw into the female end of the garden hose. Any suggestions? Ive tried TSC and Home Depot. Where are you guys getting them or is there an easier way?

Smaller bulk head I’ve seen is 1/2” . Just use a reducer

yeah thats the smallest ive found… I need to find an adapter for my flexzilla whip to screw into my swivel as well. My original whip line got lost in the mix of things somewhere over the years

Grainger

If it’s just water no SH, then I’ve seen some at Home Depot that would probably get the job done

There is 1/2 and 3/4 to garden hose adapters at Home Depot and Lowe’s

Why would you want to use such a small line? Bigger is almost always better.

I have all 1” between supply reel and buffer tank. Everything else is 1”: reel swivel, y-strainer, hudson valve, etc.

I will be getting a new Hannay hose reel in the next few monthes as this one is about 6 years old and showing its age so an upgrade in size may be an option in the future. For now this is what i have on hand and trying to get a supply reel set! The swivel is standard 3/8" so thats what i will be running for whip hose

Buy once, cry once. Get everything plumbed the way you’ll want it with the Hannay, and just adapt down to the 3/8” fitting on your current reel. Then it will be an easy swap when you get the reel you want.

currently have a hannay but its showing its age. Theyre great reels, after putting this one on the truck i didnt realize how bad we had beaten it up over the years so we did a quick repaint and will be getting a new one. We just did not have time to order and wait!

I hear ya. I just figured you’d be duplicating a lot of effort by plumbing everything with 3/8” now, and upgrading later. Besides, I think you might find an improvement in flow by plumbing larger, even with the restrictive reel you currently use.

I believe a lot of guys shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to plumbing, with the mistaken idea that their flow rate is determined by the “weakest link”. The fact is, flow rate is determined by hose diameter over a given length. Even if you have a restriction in one part of the chain, you can still improve flow by going bigger in the rest of the chain.

im not overly worried. We wont be draining our tank after every stop so it will have plenty of flow to keep up i would think. Machines are 8gpm but that would be 8gpm completely unrestricted so will produce far less than that

Hmm, 3/8” seems awfully small for a Hannay. Any chance you meant to say 3/4”?

it may actually be a 1/2" i attempted to screw a whip hose i had into the swivel thinking the hose was 1/2" it is actually 5/8"

Ah, that sounds about right. All of my reels are 1/2”, except for the supply reel which is 1”.

Your 8gpm machines should put out close to 8gpm, unless your spray tips or DS injector are so restrictive as to cause excess bypassing. It’s the max pressure that suffers the most from restrictions, though. The pump will put out 8gpm regardless. It’s up to the unloader to determine how much of it goes where.

Plumb for at least 3/4” ID, is my advice. I plumbed with 1” because I found it to be less complicated for my situation.

Just use the reel to hold your hose, peel off what you need and run straight to tank or to a 3/4" or 1" inlet hose. Washer hose works great for short runs.

Your swivel probably 1/2" anyway. 3/8" inlet hose worthless on a buffer tank for an 8gpm machine unless you’re taking a 15min break every 5min. I spent 3.5 hours waiting on water this past week and I always carry at least 150 in tank.

i was wrong it was a 1/2" inlet
