Have an olddddd farmhouse, with a heat pump system on its last leg. Its every bit of 30 years old and uses a system of 2inch tubes rather than regular ductwork. Gotten 2 quotes and both are approaching 5 grand for a tearout, and install of a standard HVAC unit.
The house is basically a shotgun style with an addition built onto the side, right at 1000 sq ft with no hallways and each room opens into another. I really think if I located it in the center of the house it would be able to keep it heated / cooled, but I have no first hand experience other than one used at a condo I stayed at years ago in Florida… but it was able to keep us cool at 95 degrees…
I’m looking into the new HVAC plug and play systems, know a guy that’s installed his own , pretty easy, also has a 25 foot pre charged line , no duct work, 1200 sq foot, heat and AC
Absolutely! The ones I’ve looked at dont look to complicated, from what I can tell it’s mainly making sure your wiring g is correct and your fittings are tight.
Correct, They’ve all had them out for decades, but recently they’ve come out with a DIY package and it doesn’t void the warranty like it used to. So you know its gotta be simple stupid to install. So just keep your old crap, no demo, And no weird dude tracking dog poop all through you house, Winner, winner.
@dcbrock you are right most are Mitsubishi dont buy it parts are a pain in the ■■■ to get you have to order everything we just out 2 American standard units in out cottage and we love them
We put them in our river house and absolutely love them. I went with the American standard version simply because parts are available in my area. Heat and cool great I ran 2 units off of the one outside unit. No problems. I think they even make the pre made line sets if you cant braze them yourself.
If you are installing it yourself and have any questions I will gladly help with any info you need. It’s a fairly straight forward install and only needs 1 special tool you can rent to do it at a professional level.
We had those in our B huts in Afghanistan. It got the job done considering if you turn the lights off during the day there was sunlight coming in from everywhere
