An “aha” moment surface cleaning

Add it to my list of semi-newbie eureka moments.

I did a really dirty, never-been-cleaned driveway today and even the push-pull method wasn’t working. Didn’t matter how slow I went, still left behind some junk.

I took a break and thought about how surface cleaners work, most if the cleaning is done on the outside as you guys pointed out. My cleaning stripe is probably about 6” with the four nozzle bar, so it occurred to me to overlap that much in a straight line.

Best I can tell it does the initial clean on one side, and as I draw it back in one thirds it does a second pass on the other side to finish off whatever is left.

Regardless, it didn’t leave stripes and I didn’t even have to post treat, which is a first for me.

You should just get you one of those 10" surface cleaners and then run a 4 nozzle bar on it and you’d be good to go, lol. You’re cleaning it in the wrong direction not helping you any.

I normally go the other direction, drive was a little skinny.

Am I missing something. I didn’t know they was a wrong direction to clean a driveway.
I’ve always cleaned the full length of the driveways. If it’s 200 ft long it’s still all the way up then all the way back until your done

If there is any striping left after the cleaning it’s less noticable going parallel with the street or side to side so they say

There’s not, some people believe any faint striping looks better in a horizontal pattern than vertical.

An old schooler taught me, the longer the pass the longer the striping the more it will stick out.

Stripes won’t happen with sufficient chem .
We chem the S_ _T out of every driveway pre and post . Probably why it’s never an issue

You guys might have different concrete we’re your at than I do though.

2 reasons really - if you’re perpendicular to line of sight, any striping not as noticeable. Also if you’re doing a longer drive it’s a lot harder to keep it rinsed before it dries, which alone can accent the strips whereas if you do it perpendicular you can keep it rinsed better before it dries and also your rinse water helps keep the lower sections wet all the way across thus helping it clean easier.

We know you mainly do them old farts condos. Average drive is 20 feet long and most your customers couldn’t see a stripe if you painted it on.

Thanks goodness. Could you imagine how bad it must look doing it the wrong way all there years :joy:

LOL, before you say anything, I know, I know, I’ll be there soon.

The hoa’s do usually have short drives . But a lot of the residential can be huge . Especially the lake houses with 500 ft driveways. I will say that at least half of our residential is pavers . You generally wouldn’t see lines even if they we’re there .
