Does anybody get involved with projects like this? I was contacted by this guy to wash this large grain dryer and one large grain bin in addtion to the small red building pictured. These are galvanized metal. There is no mold… just grain dust. I have to take my rig down and see how it comes off. I stopped in one time and based on my observation, I am thinking a pressure rinse will be required. If anyone here has specific experience with such a project, I would certainly like to talk if you are willing. It is massive… roughly 24000 square feet of cleanable surface.

I put in a bid to clean and paint a silo last year, but that one was concrete, yours is metal. I would think that other than soap you might need something to break that bond between that silo and the grain, maybe heat. Lot of work on that…good luck and if you do it post some pics please.

I went down earlier today and did a test spot. Prewet and let soak for a few minutes and it rinses right off. Yes, it is massive and probably 3-4 full days of work. I have an 8 and a 5 gpm machine with hot water. If I get the job, I am strongly considering buying a 10-12 just for this job. Struggling with pricing with this. Probably just going bid it for four full days and see what happens. I will certainly provide an update if I get the project locked in.

I will be starting at the top and working down. I am confident the water will really start to soften the material as I come down the bin. There are a ton of small areas, cat walks, and ladders to wash too, which really take time.

I would stick with your 8. Using a wand with a 10 or 12, man your arms will be dead. A 10 or 12 would be great for surface cleaning but I would think the 8 would be plenty

Good to hear. Surprised you could do it yesterday as we had high winds on the mountain, but I think you are in the valley over there. I drove on some slick roads today from the snow. Most of it has melted, Saturday they are calling for 69 degrees. It’s always crazy this time of year.

Yes, the wind was awful. I just did a small area to get a feel for it. Saturday is supposed to 80 last i checked here in central pa. Finally some warm weather.

Here is my small test area. Seemed to come right off. I dont anticipate any issues with the cleaning… now the 80 foot in the air thing is going to be weird…lol. I submitted my proposal. Waiting to hear back.

I don’t know how much lift work you have done, but don’t set your platform too close to the silo. Those platforms have a bit of sway to them the higher and further out you go, and with a breeze, you can sway quite a bit. Can’t emphasize enough about utilizing the safety harness. It will be a PITA, it will catch, it will get caught on stuff, but never take it off. I know I would be in bibs for that gig.
