Advice on fence

Bought a fixer upper earlier this year. The private fence needed some work. I used a 5g mix consisting of 3g SH, 8oz Elemonator, 2g water. I started with an x jet at 10-1. I wasn’t happy with how well it was coming off after 15 minutes of dwell. I reapplied the same mix again at 2.5-1. Much better results with a hotter mix. My only complaint is the bottom of the boards had been covered in dirt due to poor yard drainage(i have to do a French drain in the yard soon) . So they didn’t come as clean as I’d like. Just looking for any advice or critique. Thanks guys!

I think that looks like a job well done if ya ask me !

It’s just a little dark at the bottom on the long side from the soil. It’s bothering me lol. Should i just leave it be?

If I were you I would put a stain or sealer on it so it doesn’t end up that way again in 6 months. Other than that it looks good

You could always treat it with some f-8 to see if it brightens it up any. That’s what I would do anyways. Put some f-8 in a pump sprayer and do like a whole section and then use a garden hose to rinse each section after you apply it, and then just go on down the line !

I have F18 and F13 but no F8.

I would invest in some my friend. That stuff has a wide variety of things you can use it for… it has definitely saved my butt a few times.

This was one situation where the f-8 helped me out. This guys siding would NOT stop leaking dirt from behind the siding. I left to get some brushes for scrubbing and when I got back the sun cooked the dirt onto the siding and stained the siding ! I went back the next day and hit that vinyl with the f-8, and the siding looked perfect after. It ate right through those stains.

A few things to note. First of all nice job, secondly it looks like you have some standing water from washing as well as some other spots where the wood is touching the dirt and it was probably doing it a lot more before you washed it, if I am seeing that correctly get the dirt off the bottom of the fence. It is wicking water up into the wood which will not only cause staining but it will also cause the bottom of the fence to rot prematurely. Finally as has been suggested get a good oil based stain that work using saturation. I like Wood Defender (Semi-transparent looks better on white wood and last 18-24 mo longer) but if you can’t get that than use Ready Seal. The difference between that and say a Sherwin Williams oil based semi-transparent is that when you saturate it the fence the stain will wick up into the bottom of the fence and through any cracks, knot holes etc. Which can present an issue if your neighbor on the other side does nothing because their side will look like it has the measles. The other advantage of the saturating stains is that if you don’t have spray equipment you can do just as good a job with a pump up sprayer. You can go to my web site where I have a DIY section, FB page that has application videos or shoot me a note and I’ll walk you through all any of it. I’ve done something over 200,000 sq ft of fence this year. I’ll help you or anyone else if I can.

A better look.

Yeah i was going to do a pump sprayer but i have an x jet so i just went that route.

The pump up reference was to use for staining it.
