Add on lawn care

Does anybody have a landscaping division of their company? I’ve had 10 out of the last 15 properties ask if we cut grass and other landscaping duties… What’s your guys thoughts on this? I feel like if I had a labourer doing lawns I could keep him busy 2-3 days a week already just with that alone

yes im adding lawncare as one of my divisions, should be very profitable.

                                                          Thanks,Greg Hatcher

I have no clue about landscaping or lawn care so I’m going to buy a truck and get it ready for that division and hire a foreman to handle that side and when he’s not busy he will be my helper on my cleaning jobs

what kind of lawns are you gonna run into?

The kind that are green?!? Lol. I have no idea about any of that side so I’ll be relying on my foreman

when you find out let me know I can help you out if you want !

Can you elaborate on the kinda of lawns you mean?

you gonna need a zero turn or a ride on foot steer mower,do you have to collect your clippings, things like this are very important to find out up front so you can make the educated decision possible for your businesses bottom line, there is just so many little variables to consider

Ah. I see now. I had in mind just a commercial grade push mower to start with. Most of the lawns in need on service are fairly small in size so to keep costs low I would start with that, weededer and a leaf blower. What else do you suggest? Rake, lawn edger, shovel… I want to get a final list so I can see if this is possible this year instead of waiting till next. Or maybe build my list up now and go hard next year

So your going to hire someone to run a part of your business you know nothing about and rely on some new guy to make you money.

That’s basically the plan lol. JK. The Forman that will be taking the role has an established lawn care route already in place but the company he is working for is being sold but he has a ton of experience under his belt. I will have to work out a perk for him but hourly with commission I had in mind so he has incentive to upsell and gain more business.

Do what ever you can do to bank that money specially if you live in a cold place where u can only power wash and cut grass half the year. On the down side i think Power washing a home is less labor then cutting grass.

Way more guys with mowers & trimmers than pressure washers around here. I like our margins over lawn care, but that’s just me.

Yea but its nice when a customer ask you to do there lawn after you clean up there home and you can knock it of for a quick buck after.

I’d rather make quick “Bucks”…Lol.

How much are lawns going for? Around here it seems to be $25-$40 with trimming. 1 guy an hour? 2 guys 30 mins.?

Doesn’t add up unless I’m looking at it wrong.

You hit the nail on the hammer there sir. I see it as just pleasing my power washing clients .

Cool!

We do it by washing their property. 5-8 houses a day leaves no time for grass cutting. Some guys enjoy cutting grass, I just don’t see the profit potential in our area for it. It works for some I guess.

Yeah I hear what you mean but I live in a small city and could probably pack in 10-15 homes in a few different areas pretty quick so the money wouldn’t be bad but would be nice to be a full service exterior cleaning company.

There are so many “cut, blow and go” guys here in my area driving in beat up trucks advertising $20 a week services. I’ve talked to a few of them and they proudly boast they can knock out 12 - 15 lawns a day solo. Rushing like a mad man to get $300ish at the end of the day? No thanks.

Florida is definitely home of cheap prices in lawn care and pressure washing. Florida does however work year around. Here in ky mowing will generate a dollar a minute. One guy 60.00 an hour. If you run a second person you get about 90- 100.00. If you have the time to manage and capital to get started go for it. A lot of the fixed stuff stay the same… shop, Internet, shared marketing, computers
