Acid wash stained a concrete driveway

That’s true but they are different. Muriatic is not as pure and has other impurities in it so it’s not as strong. That’s why Muriatic is so easy for a homeowner to purchase.

I can’t believe no one else has said this.

This isn’t your problem and your shouldn’t make it yours yet. He needs to get the brick company back out there and let figure out what do do. The brick guys should be the ones on the hook for that.

Imagine if you were the one who messed up the concrete. You would do everything in your power to make the customer happy. Let the guys who screwed it up deal with trying to fix it.

Oh, it’s crossed my mind. That was my first thought when I saw it.

Pretty sure we’re past the point of getting the brick guys back out sadly. I know there are many good contractors/companies out there, but, man, there sure are some bad ones.

I like the challenge. And it’s a change from the norm.

I get little projects. But taking on a job that’s probably not going to get satisfactory results is just a bad idea. Especially since another contractor is to blame for it to begin with.

Update on this…

The customer was able to get the brick company to come out. They hit it with muriatic acid starting at a lower strength and then increasing. They got it somewhat better but then made the area where the brushes were put down even worse.

I told him that’s as good as it’s going to get. And I can’t do anything to improve it. But I can softwash it and seal it. :grimacing:

Good to hear it’s no longer your problem.
I hate that type of finish. I don’t understand why anyone would choose that finish on their concrete

That’s a pretty standard finish for newer concrete around here.

I have never seen that type of finish around here. The only place I see it is on ceilings.

It would be great for traction because of how rough it is. I still think it looks bad

That finish is common here in California also, sidewalks have them usually

LOL, that answers it then. CA is special. No one else in the free world does it.

Never seen concrete finished like that in my life. I’ve seen some stucco houses that have a design in them almost identical to that. They’re ugly, too.

That’s a finish? When I first looked at it I thought somebody just parked a surface cleaner and let it run for 10 seconds and then moved it over and let it run for another 10 seconds and did that over on and on!

Yeah in my area it was referred to as a scuff finish. Usually a really soft finish because of how much cream is used to make such a harsh/heavy texture

:joy:
Most drives are like that here. Here’s another one.
What do yours look like?

@gbattle any reason they put the swirls in the concrete? Aesthetics?

Update on this project:
Customer wanted to try pressure.
Had him sign a waiver with all sorts of stipulations.
(Concrete was just shy of two years so I wasn’t too concerned about damage…and was a little curious if I could help fix the problem.)
Started at about 2000 psi. No change. Went up to 2500 psi. No change.

I see why many walk from this stuff. For the full timer, it wouldn’t likely be worth it. I went to his house three different times (granted, he lives 5 minutes away).

But the main thing for me was I wanted the challenge. Money wasn’t driving me on this project. And I had the time to “waste” so to speak. The second driver was that I wanted to get into this neighborhood and be seen. It’s a very nice neighborhood. I figured pulling in with my rig was like free advertising.

And it paid off. The guy across the street came over and wanted his patio cleaned which I simply did right then (it was small) and a quote for his driveway being cleaned and sealed. I emailed him a quote and I got the job. …which will put me back in the neighborhood to be seen.

That was my hope. Though I knew it was a long shot. I had the time to expend. Money wasn’t driving that particular project (though I got paid well). And I got to work on something a little different.

The swirls are for aesthetics only.
