Hey all, Loooong time lurker, first time posting. I wanted to share this flatbed build that I’m in the middle of completing. I’ve come up with the name Acheron. Started as an old Schwann’s freezer truck. It will have two GX690’s with Udor 30/24 pumps, 735 gallon buffer, 55 or 110 Gallon SH tanks. Two Flowpros. 4 -12", 2 -18" Hannay SS reels. Remco Fatboy plumbed from buffer to push water to DI filter. The space on the back is open for future additions.
Feel free to ask questions or sh*t on what I’m doing. If it is interesting to some, I will keep posting.
Man, I love this, keep posting. Is that a new Isuzu chassis or did you clean it up and paint?
Who’s flatbed body is that? And who the heck is doing all the aluminum fabrication?
Why such a large buffer? What’s your payload? How long is the body?
My only negative comment is why build something like that and not have at least one hot water unit, if not 2?
The Isuzu is a 2016 NPR HD has a GVWR of 14,500. I cleaned the chassis up with some Hot Stain Remover. It cleaned up surprisingly well. I have had a few ask if it is a new truck. I shopped having the aluminum flatbed custom fabbed vs. production unit. I went with the EBY body for price, time (still took 2 months for delivery), integrated hitch and overall look. Not a fan of the bump rails but they came with it. The additional aluminum welding is being done by a local fab shop. I considered getting a spool gun, but talked myself out of it.
I was between 535 and 735 for the buffer and went with more due to having a lot of poor water sources around me. 535 was ok when I was washing by myself. When I hired an employee last year, we needed to dual feed and hope the customers water could keep up. Two guys on 8’s will drain the tank quick! I also went with a 1" hose reel for the main supply. The truck can carry the weight, the bigger tank was 20" longer and not too much more $. The flatbed is 12’, 8" x 96"
As for the hot water, I have a hot water unit on my current (see pic) primary trailer. I just don’t use it too much. If that changes, there is room for a hotbox on the flatbed.
I’m doing a brake job on the Isuzu while I’m waiting for a load parts to come back from powder coat.
It looks like a beautiful, well-constructed rig.
But, how carefully have you added everything up? Depending on some details, max. payload for a 2016 Isuzu NPR HD is only around 4, 4.5 tons…
It will certainly be close to capacity when fully loaded. With the two 55 gallon tanks, I may only be able to have one full of SH when the buffer is full. I can’t weight to getting it fully loaded and take to the scales to see.
