420GB engine Dewalt 4400 psi 4gpm

Hi everyone I am new here n have a question. I have a 420GB engine on my pressure washer now that puts out 4400psi n 4 gpm ,that my son got me for my birthday. It doesn’t have a bypass. Through research I found out that the engine is a 15hp engine and I would like to switch out the old pump that’s a direct drive to possibly a gear drive or maybe a belt drive pump with a bypass and does between 3000 n 3500 psi at either 5 or 5.5 gpm. Like I said it does 4400psi but I have it cranked down to 3000 to 3500 psi. Not looking for that high pressure but the want the little higher gpm with a bypass

Welcome to the board.

What are you asking, which pump to put on there?

Also how exactly did you ‘crank it down’ in PSI?

Are you a business or just using it for home use?

Thank you, I am looking to see if I can put either of those gpm pumps on the 420GB, basically if I m able to with that engine size. When I said I cranked the psi down I turned the unloaded knob to lower the psi. I started a small pressure washing company. I have used the machine n it’s been great so far but I m also wanting a bypass so I can hook it into a tank. I hav to hit the trigger every few mins so pump doesn’t over heat, n from what I read , the bypass will help not to over heat pump if ran into a buffer tank

if you just got this pressure washer as a gift recently, my suggestion was going to be to return it and put that money towards the belt drive that you want. Since you have used it, I’m not sure if a return to get your money back is an option any longer. If it is, do that because it’s going to be easier by far.

Yea the time for return is passed by. I kno it would b a lot of work n money to try n switch to more of a gpm pump. I guess my main concern is the bypass n I hav been told I can get a pre made ready pump with all the plumbing at 4000 psi n 4 gpm with bypass for bout $430. So I may do that to just try to help the machine last awhile til I make some more money to get the bigger gpm machine. I hav done pressure washing for awhile off n on but this year decided to start a business n grow it. Going through everything with the business idea n reading n seeing the different things that are around now that I never really paid attention to.

Well, you can certainly convert that machine to a 5.5/2500 pump with a gear drive but you’ll be paying about $800 to do it.

Just do a few more jobs with that machine and save your money for a belt drive.

Also I see you haven’t done any searches in this board, I suggest you do a few hours of reading, this place is a wealth if knowledge.

Thank you dcbrock, yea I have to go through these boards to see what’s going on in the pressure washing world. I have seen this board b4 but I finally sign up today. Thank you again

You’ve got plenty of motor for a 5.5 pump. Bolt on a decent pump and upgrade motor to a Honda when it gets a rod knock or seizes in the middle of a job. It’s not ideal but might as well use it.
