$4071 Window Job, New Constuction

HomeAdvisor lead, builder of mansions chose me to clean 177 Anderson windows of stickers and debris on this new 10,000 sq ft home. He’s building constantly, and I expect to both do a great job and get $10 -$20k in business from this builder a year.

Wouldn’t have happened without HA or my expertise in windows. Sounds great! What a find. I think i want to learn windows now.

Nice, seems like you got that for a good price. I know you’ll check all those windows before you start. I understand some of the new Andersons can be temperamental with the Low-E coatings. I hope you make a killing, but that is a lot of work. How long are you planning for it to take? What approach are you using on the outsides? I have only done a couple CCU’s I am interested to hear how it goes for you.

Good one Geogie

You’re my hero! Hopefully no glass fines on the interior!

The low e should be in the inside of the glass. I worked at Pelli window in IG (insulated glass) for 3 years. They have machines that scan each window to make sure the low-e is between the window panes.

One slipped through. I did a customer’s house last week and noticed one Pella window had the low-e facing out. The rest were fine.

Yea it should be. If I remember right some of the Andersons are doing a “self cleaning” coating on the outside panels that have caused so problems. Probably not the case with this house, but just food for thought. I would read all those stickers and be sure of what is there before I touched one window. I could be remembering wrong though

Anderson’s have a metallic coating on the outside of the glass. I ordered plastic razors to use in the removal of all the plastic on both sides of each pane. I anticipate 4-5 of us cleaning for 4-5 days. Lots of ladder work inside AND outside, and my team and I are very eager to get started. I will keep you all apprised.

I contacted Anderson.

No sir, $23 per window for 177 windows. I will be training 2-3 new guys so they’ll be ready in the Spring. This is a great training opportunity. My window trainer will lead the job (with my supervision, of course).

$38 per man hour… before taxes.insurance, supplies and wages. You might want to look at your numbers again.

Your training guys now and then they’ll be back in the spring? Where are you finding these guys? lol I can’t find ones to train on Friday and come back on Monday ( joking…kinda)

Reckon I didn’t. Neither of them participated. Sixty-four man hours later and the house looks like this:

We’ll finish up tomorrow and go back after construction and clean up are complete to put the final polish on them for a total of around eighty hours.

So how do you feel like it worked out? Any unexpected troubles?

Didn’t expect the static electricity created when we peeled off the film that seems to draw dirt to the clean windows. Hence, the need to return. Fortunately, I overbid the time necessary to clean the first time only to need that time to polish them up at the end.

Already have two more jobs scheduled (one window, one PW) with the same builders. All in all a great experience overall (so far).

Cool, I’m glad it worked out and you made some money. I hope the work keeps coming in for you.

Frankly I think that was great money for what amounts to a wholesale customer. :+1:

It might sound silly but a dryer sheet works wonders when dealing with static electricity. They’re good for touching up hot glass too.
