3000 to 2000 psi

Ok maybe youse guys can answer this,i have a gauge on the gun with a zero tip, pressues up to 3000 then u hit the trigger and it goes down to 2000, new pump also, any tips or suggestions or if this is normal

Need more info…

What is your pump rated for GPM and PSI?

Zero tip is just the fan width, but what orifice size?

Take a look at a pressure washing nozzle chart…

Lets say your pump is rated for 4 GPM and 3000 psi… If your unloader is set properly, regardless of what fan spray (0, 15, 25, 45, etc) using a 4.5 sized tip you will be putting out near max at 3,000 psi… but if you move to a bigger sized nozzle like a 5.5 your pressure drops down to 2,000 psi.

Heres the numbers i found on the spray tip 357 , 4.130 and it says 1/6 but i know that doesnt matchup with hole as i cant get a .040 drill bit in there as 1/6th of an inch is .166.also pump is rated at 3400 and 2.5 gpm supposidly.

So according to the nozzle charts, for a 2.5 gpm pump to output 3000 psi you would need a size 3 nozzle (.043)… which it sounds like you have based on the markings you posted. If you aren’t reaching the rated psi with that tip, then you need to adjust the unloader so it’s set to peak at 3,000 psi. YouTube is your friend for learning how to do this.

I know how to adjust the unloader, but why do i get 3000psi at the gun and when i pull the trigger it goes down to 2000, the gauge is connected at the gun, i have no idea as to psi at the nozzle, ill assume i can only increase to 3400 psi as thats the max the pump will produce i believe.Bear with me here as i no pro but pretty mechanical. Thanks fer the help btw!

You shouldn’t be getting any pressure readings at the gun if you aren’t pulling the trigger. It sounds like your unloader is bad and letting water through instead of bypassing it.

If you have a trapped pressure loader, it is possible to get spike readings when initially pulling the trigger. 1k higher doesn’t sound right though, but I haven’t owned a 2.5 unit before.

I think we’re trying to diagnose a homeowner grade 2.5gpm machine. If it was more in the commercial side of things we could help better.

I suspect this is close to what he has.

Ya its a home unit,I pulled out the unloader and center pin is free and the rest of it moves freely, thats bout all i did today watchn pre season FB

That’s normal, 3000 PSI is the static pressure with the trigger off, and it drops to the working pressure (around 2000 PSI) when spraying. As long as the spray pattern looks good, it’s fine.

K one question, can i readjust unloader to higher pressure, pump rated at 3400 supposedly,so when a pump is rated is that a static rating or workin pressure, thanks!

Is it unusual that theres 1000 psi diff in static and working pressure

No, It’s completely dependent on the nozzle size you are running

Buy this set in a size 3.0
Put the yellow or green tip in your gun
Set the unloader to 3000 psi and never touch it again
Use different size nozzles to decrease the pressure
