2026 Liability Insurance

Hi folks,

As we look ahead to 2026, I’m wondering what liability insurance provider you are using and are happy with? Small owner/operator operation here in New England, been using JDW for years. I like that their policy seems very comprehensive and specific to our industry. I’m not thrilled that the premium for my policy is jumping 20% despite no claims ever and so seems a fair time to just ask around about what others are happy with (or not). My ‘26 premium is just north of $2600.

Thanks in advance.

I am in KY and go through Erie. GL, equipment, small enclosed trailer and 4runner is about $4000. Rates have gone up across the board and very few companies are insuring PW any more.

Jeez, you are lucky, wish mine was 2,600 and going up. I’m with Erie. Only game in town. Truck, trailer, equipment - no roofs - no employees over 3k.

Thanks for the feedback. To be clear, the liability insurance I mentioned is for liability of business operations only; not commercial auto or workers comp. Those are separate from what I described and are another ~$6k in total.

Yeah, all is going up. I do think though that it’s worth an occasional look around before we blindly rubber-stamp the renewal of a policy.

Thanks again for the input.

I’d still call erie, can’t hurt. If you weather is anything like mine right now (and I’m sure it is worse), the only water I am using is in the shower or kitchen sink. I have another policy with them for the liability. I’m just a part time with no employees and no roofs, so my costs on it for 2m (for the commercial gigs) is low, without looking maybe 1500?

I did help my buddy close a pool last friday, it was 23 degrees outside and my arm went numb to the elbow, had to do the slow defrost. Pants froze, poolside turned into a skating rink. Brand new pool, had to keep breaking the ice in the skimmer because it kept wanting to freeze over. Got it done and it is now my go to story for the year. Owner was a heck of a nice guy, too bad the pool installers were jagoffs and did him wrong.

Fire up the wood stove.
Turns out that Erie only services 11 states and D.C. Thank you for the suggestion, though.

Definitely contact your broker about coverage, I found out they signed me up for a premium coverage’ plan and had them whittle down stuff like ‘cyber crime coverage’ which only applies if you retain credit card info.

JDW is a joke. Insurance varies as WC is based off of payroll, but Erie Insurance is usually under $25k a year for me
