20% sh starting point

I have a Chem company that says they have 20 % sh. Right now I’m using 12.5% and mixing it 50/50 in my Chem tank. Can anyone tell me what a good starting point I should start at with the 20 %sh

If you’re currently mixing your 12.5% 50/50 your strength is 6.25%.

If you mix one gallon of 20% sh and 2.2 gallons of water you’ll also get 6.25%.

5 gallons 20% SH + 11 gallons of water = 6.25%

DON’T DO IT!

Yes, 20% exists, but it is so volatile you loose like percent on your way home. there is a reason why the majority of people use 12.5 percent…it gives you the most bang for your buck while remaining at 12.5% for more than a minute.

Had one tell me the same thing @CaCO3Girl saved me some headaches. I wouldn’t even deal with a Company giving you misleading info.

Thanks for the info I thought I had seen that before just couldn’t find it so you are saying even if it’s the same price as the 12.5 because where I am getting my 12.5 the guy is saying that he gets it direct and what I’m getting is probably close to 16 when I get it

Hmmm. If it were cheaper couldn’t you just dilute on pu or when delivered. OTH if you are getting the 12.5-16% at a good price why bother?

I can get both for 5 gal for 20$ not sure which is the best choice I don’t want extra bs if it’s not much benifit or worse than that more work lol

That isn’t a great cost. The more you share, the more it sounds like you are dealing with a shyster!

Listen, if you get your SH from a reputable place chances are you are getting a similar strength every time. The last thing you want is for you to THINK you are getting 20% and it turns out to be 15%, and the next time you actually get the 20%…your mix ratios are going to be all screwed up and you are going to wind up wondering how you destroyed someone’s garden because your mix was hotter than you thought. The only way out of this is if you are actually testing for Cl-…which is pretty difficult to do on the fly.

5 gallons buckets of it for $20 is the going rate around here too. Its only like $2 something a gallon if you buys it in a 55gallon drum.

really? Well it wasn’t gosh awful but yeah it’s double what I pay in the drum.

I pay $3/gal including tax

Oh thought is was like 2.80 or something. As much as you go through socar should give you a bulk discount.

My normal guy calls it 12.5 he just warns me depending on how soon I get it from when he gets it it could be as hot as 16 if that makes sense. The new guy says that he has on hand 20 for the same price but like you have said it degrades so fast I would never know what my mix is I’m going to stick with the guy that is consistently 12.5 sometimes hotter I always mix light and adjust if needed anyway I definitely don’t want to eat holes in the house lol

I pay $3.68 /gl for 50 gallons. I have to pick up between 9-5 weekdays, no delivery and no Saturday hours. Best and cheapest I’ve found in my area.
