1/2" ID pressure hose

Is anyone using 1/2" ID pressure hose? I have seen posts that suggest using a 50 foot length of 1/2" leader hose, followed by 3/8" ID hose for the rest of the run. Is anyone doing this, and if so, are you realizing any benefit?
I have a 225 foot 3/8" hose, with a 8 foot sacraficial whip on the end off an 8gpm machine. Would a 1/2" leader hose provide any benefit?

Serious question, so please answer it. Why would YOU want to run it in your application?

I am asking if there is any benefit.
Nothing more.

10-4 buddy good luck

According to the loss chart you loose 300 psi at the gun per 100 foot of 3/8 @8gpm.

You only loose 80psi at 1/2 inch.

If you swapped out 50 ft of 3/8 with 1/2 you would gain some psi

Simple math 50ft removed of 3/8 = 150 psi gained - 40 psi loss of new hose added at 1/2 ID

You would gain 110 psi at the gun for the change.

If you swap all 225 foot you would gain around 440 psi at the gun.

The gain with the 50 feet of 1/2 inch is minimal at best. It pads the pocket of the vendor that suggest it though. Hose is expensive, plus fittings. Stick with 3/8’s hose and you’ll be fine

I’m having this issue with my surface cleaner using 100’ of 3/8 hose. 4gpm machine. But it works ok with 50’ of hose. If I swapped out first 50’ would it help me??just getting started

When you say this issue. That pretty much don’t us anything details are always appreciated.

The surface cleaner is dragging with 100’ of hose but works fine with 50’ of hose.

What size surface cleaner?

going to a 1/2 in hose wont solve your problem. Guys run 8 gpm machines on 3/8 hose all the time. bigger hose just helps with friction loss.

You shouldn’t be having issues. Check your nozzles, size, and pressure.
