Help before I order

After lots of thought, I am planning to move from a truck setup and build my own trailer so I’m not constantly riding around with all of my equipment. I have read through many threads but I would just like some more input from other pros in the industry before I make such a large purchase here in the next week or so. If there is anything that I am missing or need to change please let me know. All input is greatly appreciated. I do already have a 275 gal buffer tank and most of the plumbing, 20" sc and a 35 gal chem tank. Again, thank you.!

You will be really pressed for room on that trailer with a hot water skid and tanks. Also a lot of weight for 1 3500lb axle.

Yea Ive used and still have a trailer that size as a spare. You will want bigger!!! also wont hold the weight of all that.

Thanks for the input Fat Joe. I am kind of worried about the trailer as well. My budget is $10k so I’m pretty tight when it comes to funds as far as building a trailer. How large of a trailer would you recommend? I would prefer a trailer with dual braking axles but like I said the funds are pretty tight.

Thanks Schertz. Something like this should work?

Yea it is Schertz. I just found it and I’m trying to contact him now.

You may not need the hour meter.
You will need QCs for the ball valve assembly.
You may want to consider 1 1/2" water supply.
And a hudson float valve if you don’t already have one. (The kit doesnt include one)
I have a 5.5 x 10 trailer and it filling up fast!

Thanks mark44. The hour meter is for my 4gpm machine. I have QC’s out the wahzoo but you can never have too many. A 1 1/2" supply would be great thanks. I do have the Hudson float valve.

I opted for a spare tire & jack, but, that’s just me. I sometimes travel 150 miles back and forth between summer & winter, and I wanted to be prepared. Oh, and you may want to relocate that trailer jack. I mounted a box on that area and gained a good amount of storage space for incidentals…just a thought

The 16’ would do it. Just think about how much all of it is going to weigh vs the axle rating. Don’t forget the weight of the trailer itself.

That’s a good point. It’s easy to forget about the weight of the trailer but it sits on the axle/axles just like the equipment. I’ve heard friends of mine say you only go by the load but that’s not true. If you ever get stopped at the DOT scales they’ll definitely let you know!

Weight is a concern for me and is why I was trying to fit everything on as small of a trailer as possible. Ill be pulling it with a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500. Ill be upgrading my truck in a few months. I know its kind of backwards but my demand requires a larger set up. I’m turning down too many clients due to the fact that my 4gpm unit is not suited for commercial work or large flat work at all.

No, you can never!

What are you looking to get into truck wise? A 16’ utility well loaded with our equipment is way heavy for a half ton especially if you don’t get trailer brakes on that cheap 16’ trailer you’re looking at.

Ill be stepping up to a F-250 or Chevy 2500. I’m still researching that and hoping my Ram will hold up for a few months. Ill be making that purchase around May or June.

That 6 by 12 trailer if tubing probably weighs 1700 - 1800 lbs by itself. Your hot skid will weigh about 900 lbs. Doesn’t leave you much leeway weight wise. Plus, unless you’re going to doing landscaping, you don’t want that big trailer gate. Though I admit it was good for signage.

Go with 1" on your poly braid - that’s plenty

I’d really think about those GP reels. Reviews on them not very good. I’d look at alternatives. Get one good one and roll your water hose up on floor until you can afford another imho.

If you’re just mainly going to be doing flatwork and house washes, a 16’ trailer a lot of trailer. A dual axle 12’ may be plenty.

Thanks for the input Racer. I was wanting the gate for signage but I can hang signs on my tank so that could cut some weight. As far as the reels are concerned, I will research some alternatives. I am doing mainly residential work but I am trying to establish a foothold in the commercial side this season. I have had to turn down quite a bit already due to not having the equipment suited for it.
