5gpm. I’ve debated on using my 12 volt because I can pull a stronger mix but I can’t seem to find a solid number for the ratios. On the different chemicals. It may be lack of digging I’m about to check out a thread on deck cleaning 101 as suggested by mda1775. That turned out nice!
Mda is the man on wood cleaning.
See I told him I read that and he said lies lol.
I no longer let the customer pick the stain because i had to hand brush a large deck once lol. I only will use flood coats to stain. Stain and seal experts and ready seal are my go tos
I’m not staining just doing the prep.
This is what they plan on doing so I’m thinking I can just hit it with some sh and let it ride. Do you think I still should neutralize the wood?
That will probably look very ugly when they are done lol.
Ya i would still use ox. Putting the ox on is my favorite part anyways. It makes the wood look so nice. How much are you planning on charging to clean it.
Honestly I’m newer to the wood game and last year was killing myself I think I was quoting like .12-.15 sq foot. I just read someone’s minimum was like .50 per SQ foot if so I’ve gotten busted these past few times. Learning curve. I haven’t quoted yet. There’s like a 70’-80’ run that’s 3feet wide on either side of it too.
.50 isnt bad for that just to clean it. Its easier than doing a deck in my opinion. I charged $1200 for that one in the picture. Took me 3 hours(including shooting his guns and eating lunch he made me lol). Most of that time was waiting and keeping it wet. I charge more for decks and fences.
Hmm. That’s worth a lot thanks for sharing. I suppose it was fair for my customers being that they were getting this green horn in their yard. Cool customers are always a plus.
That’s a good place to start. Sodium hypochlorite can bleach out the wood so you don’t see as much difference following with ox. A lot of this stuff still goes back to what type of stain they are going to use. Ox is not going to hurt the wood, it will also
remove iron oxide stains from nails or other fasteners.
I have a local chem store that sales 5gal liquid caustic soda. I’ll hit it with that and then follow with the ox using my DS. I’m thinking 1cup per gallon with the soda too. This is all if they ok my price. There is some galvanized roof I’ll be washing over on the sides should I be weary of any negative reactions I plan on standing on it and rinsing it off so the chems don’t sit on it. I’m a bit nervous because this is a venue so it could lead to a lot of business if all goes well.
Hey man this deck I may be cleaning has some green on it so need to use sh or percarbonate. However it has an opaque stain that almost looks like paint. Would sh lighten this type of stain?
If the coating is intact, SH won’t do anything but kill the algae but if it is compromised it will lighten up intermittently so percarbonate might be the better choice. The bad part is that the mold and algae spots are usually where it will be compromised and you can’t see it until after you clean it. That stuff is awesome camouflage for problems. As always do a test spot.
