Will SH Harm or Stain Brick?

Ok thanks bro…

Same. Used 1/2 c to 1/2 gal

Cling adds good “hang” time and a little goes a long way

I do a lot of brick. standard hw mix does fine. Need some soap on brick because of rougher texture holds dirt much more so than smoother siding. Bleach is bleach, doesn’t necessarily clean, helps eliminate mold and mildew, so you need soap. just not a clinging one. Reason I say you can’t always use one soap for everything. That’s just being lazy and cheap.
And yes, it does take a little longer to rinse brick, maybe couple of minutes per side, if that, because you’re not worried about leakers, corner boards, etc. Just be systematic about it.

All I know is that for the 3 or 4 houses that I have washed with white brick, I couldn’t tell where I had rinsed and hadn’t rinsed, and that was with 8 oz Eliminator per 5 gal SH. My theory is, the more porous the surface, the less likely that any white stuff will be visible, but it could just be the white brick. I will state that for brick, Klingon has been a real game changer because it keeps the SH on the porous surface long enough to do its job. I can’t tell you how sick I’ve gotten watching my SH run to the ground while I was forced to make multiple applications :unamused:

What kinda of soap are you talking about?? Like a degreaser maybe some snot? Just got two gallons of snot in the mail today

Snot and SH will do a good job. I have not used snot but I’ve used cling on. Basically the same thing. My mix always includes elemonator too though. Just to help mask the SH smell

As stated by those with far greater experience than me, that thickening agent serves a different function than a surfactant, and iin my limited experience the surfactant didn’t appear to have any impact on brick. To my knowledge, Klingon serves the same function as snot, and has an impressive ability to retard the solution from racing to the ground.

Just Some simple advise…go to your local dump and collect old wood, brick, tile, painted boards, vinyl, hardie board etc… test spots on them that way you know how to mix your chemicals and what chemicals work best. Its a great learning experience and will help you in ways you can’t imagine. I’m not saying don’t ask in this forum because that’s what this place is for and most people on here are more than happy to assist.

Justin, It depends. I actually used some Elemonator on some brick today, brick wasn’t really dirty and it did fine for freshening up. It all depends on what type of dirt, if any mold or mildew present, type of brick and finish of brick. If they used regular mortar or stained mortar. Most houses don’t have a lot of grease on them, so although a degreaser will help not always the ideal solution. Most general type soaps like Elemonator will do ok unless really dirty. You don’t need a clinging soap really for brick unless you’ve got some extraordinary stain, because the rough surface retains runoff anyway. My favorite soap for brick if really dirty is Limonene from Envirospec . It cleans the heck out of gutters and most other things too. But a little more expensive. It has some TSP in it so I don’t use around waterways, ponds or where I may get runoff.

Hey Rick, @Racer, as an XJet Pilot, I’m not switching out buckets to differentiate between extraordinary stain like my chimney and the rest of the brick that might not necessarily need cleaning in the first place. BUT, and tell me if I’m wrong, if I’m putting SH up on that brick, I want it to stay as long as possible. 5 gallons of 12.5% costs me $15. 1c of Klingon costs me under $3. To me, that’s a fair price to pay for a longer dwell time.

chimney stain like that is extraordinary stain. Average dirty brick isn’t

So as far as downstreaming a brick House not too dirty you would just use straight 12.5 sh before downstreaming and no surfactant? I don’t have an xjet or softwash option at thebmoment. Just a ds injector.

Easiest by far is to not clean brick. My estimates say siding and painted surfaces. If it is a house we will hit the brick foundation with a turbo nozzle but that’s about it. Dirty brick chimneys are still dirty brick chimneys when we leave

The majority of my houses are at least half brick half half hardy. I have not problems with brick and a surfactant

Are you 50/50 Sh & H2O? How long are you letting it dwell? I have a lot of brick homes where I’m at and just trying to learn from those who have dealt with them a lot! Thanks

Im hitting the brick with about 2% SH after dilution

Loosing $$$ chimmeys pay a lot

I don’t think I’ve lost money in the last 15 years.
