Which way to go? Cold vs. Hot?

But then you’ll have the audience going “yeah but now they’re primed for the future!”

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. You mean. The same future that 18 months ago slapped a global pandemic on the table that put thousands of established businesses in the toilet?

Yeah, I’m not a gambler but even I can tell you that’s a losing bet.

You’re preaching to the choir my friend. Sometimes you just have to sit back and laugh about it or you’ll be right there with em lol

Okay, let me know when you have a truck
It’s still making me money. And, being on the smaller side I don’t have to worry about the buffer tank for my limited space. For me, once again that’s ME, the system I have is working. Just as you are hesitant to swap from a minivan being that it provides you plenty of storage for your window cleaning options, I am choosing not to upgrade as what I’m doing seems to be working for the level of clean that my client base is happy with and I’m able to throw the money at my other financial goals at this time. I never set out to wash 5 houses in a day. 3-5 a weekend is more than enough for me.
No hard feelings Brock.

Shockingly I will be using my 4runner to pull the new trailer. We decided to start partitioning services, so instead of taking everything with us every day, we will use the van for strictly window cleaning and screen repair, and the truck will just be used for PW.

I wasn’t trying to be snarky, just would like to see you come into the 8gpm fold because it’s such a gamechanger.

Would you have a dedicated trailer or truck? How many gallons are the tanks? Most of your customers are on well water? How many miles you have to drive each day? Are you handy fixing things? ( hot machines have more things to go wrong and also use kerosene or diesel to heat up, heavier also)
You will need a backup also. One machine is no machine.( I learn it the hard way.)
$800 seems cheap. Even a commercial machine 4/4000 is around $1600 or more in my neck of the woods.

GX 690 Honda Electric Start H.O. Commercial Hot Water SKID 8GPM 3500 PSI Pressure Washer Belt Drive General Pump is $6700.

You will have to make the best decision for you knowing your market and how much you would like to invest, your monthly cost and expenses.

@quadzilla200 Hot machines are a necessity to do restaurants but you do not need one yet. That’s more for when you’re full time and ready for commercial contracts IMO.
Get at least a 4gpm pw to start with. I have a decent 7gpm soft wash system that I do the majority of my work with. My pressure washer is pretty much only for concrete surfaces on most jobs.

Take a look at my posts to see my 5x10 trailer layout.
4x4 Pressure washer, 12v soft wash system, 2x 35gal tanks, water hose reel, & pw hose.
Don’t over complicate things in your head, try drawing your set up to visualize what you’ll need. I spent too much time & money on equipment in the beginning when advertising/branding (websites, Google business profile, etc.) are more important.

The Powerboss was just a basic cold pressure washer.
I haven’t bought the tanks yet, but I hadn’t thought about well water issues.
I think I’m going to start smaller since I only have a single axle trailer. I’ll readjust my plan.

Thanks, I will take a look at your set up. Thanks for the advice.
Would you just leave any of the commercial stuff off of the website and signs then? That is where I kept getting tripped up. Probably a lot cheaper to redo the signs when I’m ready versus saying I can’t do something I’m not set up for yet and never getting the call again.

You should checkout GoDaddy’s website builder.
Very easy to use.
Straight-forward.
Way cheaper than $200/month but you have to do the work yourself.

You do know that you can add a hot water system to any cold water system. You do not have to buy them together. Just saying that when or if you ever have the need for hot water system you could add it without starting over with a complete system.

I went down the pressure washer porn rabbit hole the last two weeks. I’ve searched out all the online players. Sadly, there is next to nothing in stock when I call. I found an in stock 5.5gpm cold, and no hots. Told two months on Hydros. I was hoping to get some jobs in for family and friends before winter (and get the photos) and then build out the trailer and website.

Went to a local dealer and got sticker shock on their hots and colds and then checked out FB. I was taken back by the used trailers for sale. Exact same units I was quoted $16k at the local dealership. This Hotsy one was for sale for 12k with 3.5 hours on it! Another one three hours a way had 30 hours for 10k and was bought for 15k. One thing I was hesitant on was the low gpms for the price. Quite a lot more trailers in a 500 hour radius.
Any advice on buying used? Things or brands to watch out for? Kind of surprised at the number of Hotsys since I thought they had a good reputation.
Thanks for all your help.

Landa ,Hotsy, hydro tek, hydro max are all good well built hot machines, get new if you can afford it and get it soon ,there’s a 20% increase on the horizon on all machines. Also pressure pro ain’t half bad on hot skids. Cold pressure pro skids suck imo. And if that’s a rice trailer your looking at your not far from me lol.

A lot of guys come in to this business and think a nice rig is all you need to make money. Low hours means they did not do anything to grow the business and likely gave up. Test out the used stuff and if it fits your needs buy it.

Hi dcbrock, What machine did you finally settle on?

I had a 5.5/3500 but converted it to a 8/3000 gear drive.
