What's the most interesting thing you've washed this year?

Did you have to evict a clown…

You know, I was tempted to take a clown mask down there and scare the crap outta my tech, but then I’d have to wash that 900’ down to the end too lol! We just had to do a light rinse of the inside so a pipe repair company could come in and spin cast it with basically cement. The section with all the rocks and heavy build up, I believe they had to have a hydrovac to take care of. Wish I had the money for a hydrovac truck. They can charge through the nose because not too many companies in the US do it. Some even build equipment specifically for each job. Did get creepy at times down there.

Did you have 900 foot of hose? Or did that get tacked onto the bid!

I hear you there. We had to vacuum out some water filter tanks at a power plant last winter. There were 3 tanks that were probably 10 feet across and 12 feet tall. They were filled with different size rock and sand which I think added up to like 10 tons per tank. Anyways, there’s only one vacuum truck company locally and they have two trucks that they had built exactly how they wanted. I was talking to the operator and he said each truck brings in $875 an hour and they are booked almost everyday.

I have about 600’ of hose. There were two manholes (sorry commifornia) spaced about 300’ apart, and the pipes opened up about 300’ on either side of those two manholes. We dropped down one and washed out about 500-600’ and moved to the other one and dropped down again. Wasn’t too bad, being that topside was over 100* and down below stayed about 70* or so.

Gotcha, never done any below ground work, I’m pretty claustrophobic, but for the right payday ide get over it!

Take a confined space course before you do if you ever have to. Never knew you could die in seconds dropping into a storm drain without a gas monitor to alert you to poisonous gasses. Those little suckers are expensive too.

Will do! Ive heard there’s some kind of odorless gas that can knock you out with just a few breaths, scary stuff@

Several actually. Decomposing leaves and no airflow makes for a deadly combination.
