Upgrade indecision

I have a handyman service and occasionally do some pressure washing and would like to do more of it. I have been learning that I was doing it wrong, and with the wrong equipment, but hey, I’m learning. I’m looking to upgrade my pressure washer, and I think I’ve narrowed it down to 2 that fit in my budget (around $1500). Both are belt drive with gx390 honda engine and HP pump. One is 5.6 gpm @ 2500 psi, the other is 4 gpm @ 4000. Assuming the machines are the same quality, do I go for more gpm and less psi, or vice versa? I plan on doing residential house wash and driveways… I am leaning towards the 5.6 gpm (I will be running a buffer tank), because I know I’d like the extra gpm for house wash, but is 2500 psi enough for flat work? (I will be using a surface cleaner) Thanks in advance!

add $500 to your budget and build yourself gx390 with a 5gpm udor gear drive pump. 2500 is enough for residential concrete, just post treat…

Personally, I think you need 3000psi for flatwork. 2500psi just doesn’t cut it.

You can get a 3000 @ 5GPM machine and have the best of both worlds.

Gotta know what your future holds…

The volume will make house washing & rinsing concrete etc much quicker, but the extra pressure will be useful on dirty concrete.

If you expect to do mostly houses etc, then go for volume and expect to use extra chemicals on concrete (I use an X-jet at low volume - according to their chart it pulls at about 1:4), plus don’t be afraid of the overlap when using the surface cleaner.

Enjoy the new toys, whatever you get!
