I am 68 years old and made the decision to stop doing commercial work at the end of this year,l still plan on cleaning houses - I have regular customers that have been with me from the start and I would hate to give them up - I live in South Carolina where we have a lot of mildew ,in May and June I am completely overwhelmed with house cleaning - I have never owned an 8 gallon pump,on my rig I have two gear drive pumps one is 4gpm the other is 5.6gpm with a tank and a diesel fired burner and hose reels - after all these years it would be sad to see what I missed by not using an 8gpm pump I am sure the rinsing action is incredible - on some jobs when I need extra help I also use a trailer with a 300gallon tank with a belt drive machine - I still enjoy Pressure Washing and contribute my good health to the hard work involved,it still gives makes me feel good when I have worked my ■■■ off and see the finished product and how satisfied the customer is - I am enjoying this web site because you are never too old to learn,I Am amazed at what I read,I wish this had been available years ago I wouldn’t have as many miles on my old body :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Where at in SC?

I retired after 42 years as a police officer and started Pressure washing out of desperation, the police agency I worked for did not allow secondary employment at that time and I was always fearful of getting caught I used to go into neighborhoods knocking on doors with my hat in my hand, once I got established in a neighborhood I got a lot business word of mouth,I have never advertised but have had an established business for years - I see my friends just starting out that advertise and have more work than they can do,oh well I missed out on that,Pressure Washing has been good to me I have my police retirement and health insurance to fall back on - I don’t know if I would have made it as my primary job,if it is you have your work cut out for you !

I might have misunderstood. Did you start your business in the side while still in law enforcement?

That is a perfect set up for most jobs,I use my s-10 for my running around and giving estimates so for me the small trailer works great,I pull my rig with a four wheel drive Tundra that gets terrible gas mileage so I use my small trailer set up every chance I get

Greenville?

The Lexington area

Im over near Clinton/laurens/greenwood area.

I did,I went through a nasty divorce and had it not been for pressure washing I would have starved to death - I cleaned at night, days off and on big jobs I would take annual leave,it pulled me out of a deep hole

Grizz I have Pressure washers in all corners,I have a contract to wash cars for and insurance auction company every week I have a man that does that I keep two machines at that location,I have people that work for me and they each have two machines,I am constantly upgrading and replacing equipment - and I always have several spares having just one big elaborate rig would not work for me,I used to connect two 4gpm pumps together with a 9.0 tip it did save some time but it would wear me out so I don’t use that set up anymore, also I am always looking for a deal on used equipment which has saved me a ton of money

When I started I used a pump up garden sprayer and a 24’ ladder to apply chemicals,a two story house with a gabeled roof was a challenge, about 3 to 4 hours $100,I thought I was rich, two
In a day was a windfall - when I got my first chemical injector I thought I had died an gone to heaven
The only ladder I take now is a 12’ step ladder - it gives you a good angle for cleaning dormer and offset areas without having to get on the roof.my Pressure Washer of choice was a 1500psi 4 gpm pump 6.5 hp (TT1540 General Pump) it was great on vinyl siding because of the rinsing action and the lower pressure let you work all day without being worn out,I had a big machine as a backup and for driveways - now I use a bigger machine for everything

You just summed up why myself and millions have a problem with law enforcement. Double standards and hold themselves above the law. Why would you operate a business if you were not allowed to have secondary employment? Few and far between to find an honest LEO.

That’s funny you would question my honesty and you don’t know me except for the fact that I said I had been a police officer,I didn’t do anything unlawful and never got put in a position to lie about it,that was a policy that was changed shortly after I started Pressure washing - I am sorry you have had some bad experiences with LawEnforcment there are some bad ones but by far most are honest and do a good job - from your attitude I am just going to bet you are to blame for most of your problems with the police,I didn’t get on here to defend my having been a police officer,I am just excited about talking with other professional Pressure washers - I do hope you have a good day

You just made a lot of assumptions. I started in LEO. My wife was and brother is. I know the corruption. You are the one that stated you started a business when you weren’t allowed to and was afraid you would be caught. That’s out of your mouth, not mine. If you were deceitful to your employer, it’s not a leap to think you were to the public.

A buddy of mine is a state trooper. He drinks beer while driving and speeds everywhere he goes. 🤷

Did I misunderstand this and you were allowed to have secondary employment and you weren’t afraid of being caught?
