Turning down pressure using unloader instead of nozzles

I’m still on a gx390 with a EZ4040 replacement pump on wheels but it’s a starting point  with that little warrior I’m on track to have enough earned to build a trailer setup with a hot water 8 gpm enclosed trailer build by the end of this year. Speaking of 8 gpm. I looked up the same washer that @Racer has, a Hydro Max 8.5 gpm. Noticed it has a Kohler ECH749 engine. About 4 more horse than a GX690. Anyone have any experience with that engine ? Is it a good engine to have or do you think downgrading by .5 gpm to the 8gpm GX690 I better ?

@Racer got the Honda engine with his I believe. You can get either.

I’ve never owned a Kohler but, keep in mind, it’s fuel injected so a little different to work on if you plan on doing your own repairs. Did you see the 10 gpm with the 38HP Kohler!

That 10 gpm is a beast ! But for 2 gpm more its also 2 grand more. I think I will stick with 8 gpm lol!

The day I buy something like that is the day my employees are out making me money while I’m at home laying in the pool.

The concrete came out real nice! Just curious, how long have you been adjusting the unloader time to time? Just want to know what sample size we have if it’s potentially a life expectancy or wear and tear issue with the pump.

I only adjust it when I have a new concrete job which has been 3x in 3 months. So I guess once a month. Usually it’s operating at a different pressure from 20 min to 1 hour then it goes back to its original set pressure. 0 issues so far. I don’t do a lot of new concrete as im only residential at the moment.

@DJPWS You asked about the Kohler ECH 749. I have one with a Udor 8/3500 gear drive attached. I put my unit together and it is less than a year old. Thus far it has worked very well. @marinegrunt Brian is correct, the ECH is fuel injected and is a bit different from a Honda, although Honda has just come out with the iGX series of twin engines which are fuel injected. Whatever you buy, it is just a matter of learning how it works and following the service recommendations. I went with a Kohler as they are made here in Wisconsin and wanted try something different. But I have to side with @Innocentbystander that unloaders should be set and left alone. It really only takes 5-10 minutes with a socket wrench to spin on two or four different nozzles onto a spray bar of a SC.

I don’t mind changing tips but I don’t know if I can find an 8gpm flood jet tip let alone reduce the pressure also. I did just buy this bad boy though! Mosmatic Surface Cleaner with Venturi System, Aqua Model: 12'' Pan, 4000 PSI, 3 Caster Wheels - Dultmeier Sales

I have a $4000 Landa and it has a knob. When does a machine become a real machine in your eyes?
Just curious.

Well, for one, when it doesn’t have a knob on the unloader. I don’t own any Landa’s if that tells you anything.

I too, have a fake machine.:laughing::laughing:

Maybe when my gear drive 8gpm pump arrives it’ll just be a slight imposter.:+1:

That doesn’t tell me anything.
I’m just trying to figure out what machines don’t have the “knob”.

I haven’t even used the Landa yet and I’ve had it since last year. Got a killer deal on it from a customer so I bought it. Going to build a trailer some day and use it then.

Upscale neighborhood. Guy had me do a huge pool deck, 8ft high retaining wall on 3 sides, driveway and sidewalks. Said he bought the machine 2yrs ago and did it all himself (with a wand lol) and said he’d never do it again. He says give me $1000 and you can take it. I said its not something I really need but I’d give you $750 for it just to have as a back up. He said take it😀.
Brand new machine.

Not sure what you are asking. If you have a machine with a knob on the unloader, odds are pretty high it isn’t a commercial grade machine. Or at least not until you do some work to it. What kind of Landa machine is it? $4k seems like a lot of money for a guy to use it once and sell it for $750.

Why do all major pump manufacturers also manufacture unloaders with knobs?

I can’t think of too many pump manufacturers that make unloaders.

All these guys do Giant, General, Cat, Comet, Annovi Reverberi, Legacy, and Hypro. Probably more I’d have to research it.
