Tips for staying at Opryland in 2014

How were you getting nickel and dimed if you got a free room? Just curious.

I loved the resort/room/bars/everything. No complaints from us. We will be there every year. I suppose I did talk to my roommate once about all the extra fees, but that was my fault. It was all clearly posted on their website, so there shouldn’t have been any surprises. I even I. It could have been a lot worse. I even sprung for the extra valet parking. Good thing, too, since I played chauffeur all weekend. Loved it
Just think if we wouldn’t have received the group discount.
Thanks, again, Thad.

First class, had a great time!

I don’t know. I guess I’m just not used to the whole resort thing. I’ve had rooms just as nice for $80 a night that came with a hot breakfast buffet, gourmet coffee and free parking. I did not expect to pay separately for parking, or pay $6 for a reheated breakfast sandwich that was cold in the middle. $3.50 if I wanted a coke… Just not a good place to be on a budget.

Josh, you got to see beyond all of that. I know some guys maybe couldn’t afford to be there, but I really don’t see how anyone couldn’t afford to be there…as far as knowledge. You’re one up on your competition if not more.

Remember, you get out of it what you put into it…that goes for equipment, marketing, education, or whatever.

Just Saying.

The $400 hose and Hanay reel I won covered my hotel expenses

Not to mention the dozens of pages or notes I took. The people I met. All the free samples, tshirts, literature. Well worth it, even if money was tight for some.

I did forget to chat with Curt about responsibid. Anya about my hideous website. Nola, I suppose.

Didn’t say it wasn’t worth it. Was just answering the question.

John K. Anya said call her anytime… This event so going to be priceless so anyone who can go needs to be there. Its for everyone so start saving for next year now. I learned a lot of new things and ways to bid commercially that I would have never know about. Plus all the great friends I have made. I also learned about 2 other PWRA members in my area so now we will work closely together to help each other advance in out markets.

You lucky Dog … It was nice too meet you and have a couple of beers with you and your friends … It was fun

We have stayed in the one in Florida b/c its so close to Disney. We love that one. Its actually better than OpryLand…

I think somebody mentioned it earlier but I like the idea of recording or taping each class. I know I would be interested in all of them and would pay extra to have those classes I couldn’t attend. This was my first convention so I don’t have another one to compare to but I can say I was completely blown away and impressed with the entire event. It kind of reminds me of the credit card commercials.
convention: $199
room: $139 + taxes, resort fee, parking, bla bla bla
burger: $18
Gift for the kids and wife $200!!!
Knowledge gained and friends made: PRICELESS!

I have heard amazing things about that one as well.

Cracker Barrel, FTW!

I probably won’t present a class or presentation at an event like this if its being recorded. I’m willing to share what I have learned with somebody if they have made an effort to come to the event… but I’d have to think long and hard about sharing certain things if it’s recorded for anybody and for an indefinite amount of time.

Sorry, I don’t want that to come across the wrong way. I don’t want to come off conceited… Or as a know it all.

I guess what I mean is, the contractors who spend the money to come to these events should be rewarded. If classes are recorded and sold at discounted rates, attendance will suffer and events like this won’t be possible. Besides, we all know, most of the real information is learned from networking and talking with other contractors…

You DID know that that was unlimited bacon, right!? How can you put a price on that?

Yes what I meant by selling was selling to the attendees at the event not outside of the event. I agree it should not be sold outside of the event. That’s the reason for going. I would just like to hear it all if I’m attending. I’ve been to other type of business conferences and this seems to work well. They typically just make those classes available that weekend on cd or DVD. Btw I really enjoyed your class! Learned alot!

I’m kicking myself in the butt for missing your soft washing class Saturday. I heard that class was amazing and you also went over a little roof cleaning.
I guess I should ask Thad if it’s acceptable to share notes with attendees. Obviously I won’t be passing them around to those that weren’t able to attend, but there were several classes during the same time slot that I wanted to attend, but couldn’t.
I agree with video/audio recordings. It may be used with good intent for attendees only, but there is always that one person who doesn’t like to follow rules. Video/audio should not be allowed. Maybe just notes passed around in the members area.

Some of you guys are forgetting one of the major reasons to come to the conventions/workshops etc…

…Is meeting/talking to the other contractors face to face…I learn just as much doing that as the classes.

AJ and I really liked the Opryland…but I definitely wouldn’t mind a change in venue, like maybe the National Harbor Gaylord  --Plenty of sightseeing in my neck of the woods.

I looked at that one, Trey. It’s even more expensive. Can you imagine the squealing?
