Side Hustle Yay or Nay

You can still ds with a small machine. I’d probably stick to house washing tho. A small machine isn’t very efficient but concrete is even less efficient. You could get by doing fences. Time is money tho so I’d upgrade as soon as you can. I’m not sure if you can ds fences with your machine. Just give it a try. If not, just use a pump up to apply the chems to wood.

I plan on putting my machine up for sale and using that money to fund a 4 gpm machine. Any particular one that you fellas would recommend? Are the ones from the local box stores good for go like a Dewalt or Simpson or should I be looking for something different? Trying to keep cost down as much as possible so I can purchase all the other supporting supplies I’ll need to get started.

@StinkerBean
I’ll start off this by stating I am just a part time guy here who’s still learning, but I’ll share what I have learned.
DeWalt and Simpson don’t mean anything other than a company that was able to put their name on a cart with wheels on the bottom of it. What you should be most interested in are the engine and the pump. Most people here are fans of Honda GX engines, but there are those that have great luck with the Briggs Vanguard series, the Kohler Commands, and even some Predator engine builds. Then for your pump there will be names to the likes of Udor, Comet, AR, Cat, GP, and more. You can purchase a turn-key ready system or you can build your own by purchasing the engine of your choosing and then a corresponding pump that matches well with that engine. To get into it full-time everyone will advise you to stay away from Home Depot and Lowe’s. To start off, you can make do with something from there, but it isn’t the most efficient. It just depends on how efficient you want to be and also how much you want to invest upfront. I started off with a DeWalt branded cart from Home Depot that came with a Honda GX270 and a AAA pump rated for 3.5 gpm and 4K psi. I had no idea what I was really doing other than spraying high pressure water at peoples houses in order to remove mildew, dirt, cobwebs, etc. I found this forum, read a tremendous amount of information, and decided that maybe I was doing it all wrong. I decided to switch up from straight pressure washing to more of a soft washing approach and since then I’ve been pretty happy. I still use the same washer I bought 3 years ago, but I’ve taken it off the cart, jerry-rigged it up in the bed of my truck, and keep my fingers crossed that it’ll keep going. I’ve updated the stock downstream injector and went the jrod route. But there are many who prefer the XJet route. After jointing the forum I began implementing techniques / practices learned here into my business and I’m constantly reading and learning still. My suggestion to you is to read, read, and read a lot here on this forum. You’ll find that most everything you could ever think of is already typed up here somewhere and likely in multiple threads. With that stated, good luck in whatever you choose to do and I hope you are successful.

Thanks man, I’m trying to read and search this site as much as I can to come up with a game plan that will work for me on starting out. There is so much to learn and I enjoy reading up on lots of the threads on this forum. Wish I would have started looking more into this sooner so that I would be ready by now considering summer time is right around the corner for me.

Where do you guys usually purchase Oxalic Acid from? Looking to clean my wood fence and use it as part of my hands on learning.

amazon

I agree with you completely, he deserves to get something back for what he does he helps people and expects nothing back. This forum doesn’t have every person in the states that wants to start a pressure washing business in it.

How did I not get tagged at some point in all of this drama? Lol.

I don’t understand all of the sore feelings toward Heath.

Any one of you could’ve taken the time and put in the work to create your own guidebook. Did you?

(Now that I mention it, I am a little jealous that I didn’t think of it, first… :smirk:)

Yes, all of the info is available here free of charge. And in my opinion, newbies will learn a lot more by putting in the effort to do the research themselves.

But some people are just not capable of that level of deep research, or don’t have the time.

When Heath first published his ebook, he put it up for 99¢, I believe. He stated his intentions of simply wanting to reach a wider audience than this forum, and that he wasn’t trying to make money off of it.

He didn’t raise the price until a bunch of us pressured him into charging more for the resource he created.

Just because he’s active on here doesn’t mean he got all of his information on here, all of his beginner lists aren’t copied and he goes in depth for what you need to start a business.

Easy easy. I respect Jesse and his opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Heck I served 20 years in the Navy for everyone’s freedom. I love the fact we CAN say what we like.

I do believe this is a professional forum and we should do our best to keep it that way.

Because there are hurt feelings I will say I haven’t seen a dime of the money yet nor decided what I’m going to do with it. Things I’ve debated: charity, building a beginner trailer and giving it away, sending @Racer a gold plated ST-2315

But I made the guide for myself. I shared it with new guys to help get them rolling in the right direction. The true reason I published it is I was getting messaged constantly by people wanting to pay me for it etc. By publishing it via Amazon I lost a lot of money BUT I got that pressure off my back. I still get daily messages about the book which I appreciate and I love hearing it helps people.

No one’s opinion bothers me. So please take it with a grain of salt and know I’m happy, healthy, and extremely grateful for this community, forum, and industry.

Sorry Jesse, I love you man, but that tone wasn’t called for. I’m sure you didn’t mean it the way it reads (that her opinion is worthless).

Sorry Heath. I really do think you’re a pretty good guy, and I’ve considered doing the same thing myself in the past. It just felt unethical, so I never did it, and the fact that you did just doesn’t sit well with me. If anytime else had done it I would have felt the same way toward them. No hard feelings, I just disagree with this particular situation. Kind of like if I had learned that a “charity” founder was paying himself 100k per year…maybe it’s “ok”, but I don’t like it.

I’ve been on the forum for quite a bit of time just didn’t have an account. You’re the one showing disrespect for no reason I have a lot of respect for a lot of people just not you. Stay mad or get over it :kissing_heart:

I understand where you’re coming from. I also have a lot of people mad that I published a book without x number of years in the industry.

My view is there are many books on many things that the person wrote that are very helpful even if they didn’t invent the subject matter. My guide is an organization of data. Nothing more. There are some of my opinions in it of course.

I do think in America we get paid for our effort. So I don’t feel it’s unethical for me to accept any money for taking the months it took me to organize it all. That being said I haven’t yet but that’s my stance on it.

I do appreciate you being open about it with me. I respect your opinion.

… I was messing with you it’s just banter don’t take it so harshly

Wasn’t going to say that at al actually I’m sure your 2 cents matters to some people on here I personally don’t care what you do. All I did was show my respect to someone that helped me and you had to show disrespect for the second time to him through your reply to me. It’s weird how much you’re responding to someone with such little worth, pretty pathetic behavior for a grown man.

Everyone… lets calm down.
