Safe chemicals recommended for cleaning painted clapboaards

I had my mix of sh and elemonator just about remove color from stained cedar shake siding. We did a test spot behind air conditioner. The color was a light grey. I don’t do any painted surfaces.

Most of these choices contain SH and also don’t clean much. You’ll end up using pressure to get the surface clean and that is definitely dangerous.

How were you applying the detergent?

And what dilution did you use?

Again, I can see strong mixes (xjet, 12v) having some sort of effect on certain paints.

But downstreaming under 1% mix having noticable damage is crazy.

Does anyone have any pics of this happening?

No photos but have had some minor fading on spots on two in the last year. Both painted hardiboard. One a red and one beige. Both homeowners has been made aware of the potential for fading/discoloration so no big deal and both areas were fairly small. Pre-wetted and was sure to keep wet while my chem worked. DS’ed SH and elemonator. Again, I took all precautions, used a weaker mix, and still had some issues. There are a ton of homes in my area with painted hardiboard so I’m not going to turn them all down, just going to make customer aware of potential issues beforehand and let them make the decision to clean or not.

I was actually talking about house washes without SH. Can’t attest to the “cleaning” factor, but SH doesn’t actually “CLEAN”, lol! Running joke on here…but still.

It was not strong at all. About 1/3 bucket of sh and rest water. I only downstream. I tried fing the picture but it was 2 years ago.

Well, if we are talking organics soap won’t do much. SH or pressure.

Okay specifically I was talking about something like an M-1 House Wash, Krud Kutter house wash, Zep House Wash…things like that. Not organic, just not SH.
