Stained this deck yesterday when the real feel was like 108 and I was thanking God it was shaded. Still probably lost five pounds in sweat.

This isn’t pointed at you JAtkinson, just a reply to the thread about cleansol BC
I used Cleansol BC yesterday to get oxidation off 30+yr old aluminum siding that had been repainted, once with a sprayer apparently… Cut it 4-1 then DS. On the absolute worst side: pre wet, applied, wait 5 min, reapply, wait 5 min, rinsed. Still oxidized. Applied, wait 3 min, applied, rinsed. Still oxidation present. Applied, brushed, rinsed, oxidation gone. Wound up brushing the entire house top to bottom, but I skipped the second application. Next time I use it, apply, wait, apply, brush, rinse.
Don’t get me wrong, this oxidation was bad, looked like watered down white latex paint coming off. WHen all done the house was almost bare in spots, the worst side looked fantastic and the homeowner asked the painter if she should still have it painted. He was there and gave me a dirty look. I quickly told her it wouldn’t match the other 3 sides of the house when they got painted… When all sides had been brushed and then dried I will normally go back with a rag and do a test, nothing came off.
Side note for those who care: painter removed the shutters and it was black behind them, which is normal. Cleansol didn’t budge the black, and an assortment of degreasers and acids didn’t really do much. For the shutters themselves, an acid brush dipped into the cleansol bucket (cut 4-1), almost melted the paint off the shutters whith a quick scrubbing. They were red, but they were originally black. No dwell time on the shutters, applied with brush and immediately rinsed. Removed some of the paint, all the oxidation. They are getting painted black again.
Just an .02. I have had no luck with this supposedly “brushless” oxidation remover. I always wind up using a brush. It does clean the house up nicely, including the gutters, soffit, fascia, and the coil trim by the windows. I might make it my gutter cleaning chem/tough soffit/fascia spot cleaner. It is awesome for removing oil overspray. I plan on using it to clean fallout off a building soon. I think I might give it one more try but cut it 3-1 and see if it improves it. I have never seen this pink color people mention. When this 5er is gone, I’m going to Racer’s aluminum brightener.
If you guys paid attention to what I’ve said on here and actually read the product literature and SDS’s you’d be a lot better off. Not throwing stones at you @Dirtyboy.
All the Cleansol is, it’s a strong hydroxide mix, basically like in most gutter cleaners or you could use Russ’s BD2500 for about 1/3 the price or any number of products including concentrated purple power.

Negatory. I only offer SSE stain just to keep things simple. That’s SSE Pecan. Doing a pergola and deck in Walnut this week.

How long have you been using the SSE?
What’s the shortest amount of time you’ve used it before getting rain and being ok? Seems like it needs more dry time than the stain I use.
Two-ish years now. Great results every time that I’ve used it. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ve ever done a wood project with rain in the forecast so can’t answer that 100% but I always stop by 48 hours after the last coat and check everything and it’s always completely dry to the touch. I tell people to stay off for 72 hours before replacing furniture, plants, etc.

Did you spray or brush/roll? Can’t tell how big from the pic. I’m guessing 12x16 with 8 steps…what do I win?
I offer wood defender or SSE, so that they have a choice in colors. Shelf life differs, but wood defender uses those awesome metal cans and gaskets. The other thing that might matter if you store it in the north, wood defender, don’t worry about cold, sse worry a bit.
14 hours roughly. Wasn’t supposed to rain. I went back next day all worried. Beaded all over. OF course the surface is flooded til it won’t take the stain anymore, towel shimmy off the excess.
All brushed/stain mitt on that one. No steps. I think it was 12x18 but might have been a touch smaller.

I’d like to talk to someone that has had it rain within 2-3 hours and been fine; even 4-5 hours would work. We get spot showers around here and there’s always a chance of rain even if very small. The stuff I use is good to go by then. And I’ve unintentionally cut it that close.
This week I’m going to stain the two decks next to this humidor I stained a couple years ago.
The decks have never been stained. They should’ve been done when I did the humidor but it was a money thing for the customer.

I used it on a stucco home last year and I quickly quit using it because I thought it messed up the paint on part of the house. I believe the paint was oxidized in certain areas, but not all of the same wall (there was a large fountain that cast a shadow over the middle of the wall and I think that the sun beat around it, causing oxidation on either side but not the middle). Either way, I was nervous about ever using it for general cleaning again. I would like to try it on certain jobs where SH does not solve the problem entirely. Have you ever had the product mess up a finish on any kind of home or building siding that was not oxidized? Also regarding your comment of comparing it to purple power. I know purple power is an alkaline, degreaser and this product is an alkaline cleaner. Purple powers sds sheet shows ether as the active ingredient, is that similar to sodium hydroxide? I wonder if adding purple power to the hw mix would be a much cheaper substitute for terra wash. I’ve been adding Powersolve on soap 2 for non-organic contaminates and it works pretty good. Used 5 gallons of it last week to clean four 20’ walls on a 24,000 square-foot warehouse and no sh (sh wasn’t allowed due to the wine). It worked great.
