North Star soft wash system woes

yet proven by science

I concur that honesty and integrity are 100% the most important thing there is, and I have actually published that line because it is 1000% defensible by impartial parties.

Every one of these can be true. Insurance companies have definitely forced people to clean them to avoid tehir HO policy being cancelled, I’ve seen the news stories.

The problem with it isn’t that there may or may not be an article to support it . Chance’s are there are also articles to disprove it . Unfortunately information found on the internet is about as reliable as information from a politician. It’s the idea that it installs fear in the home owner as a way to sell a service. That’s the purpose it’s told to people. No one is walking around EDUCATING home owners on the potential ā€œriskā€ other than people try to sell something. There not doing it as a public service

The goal would be to do both…my primary objective is to become the service provider that educates, and if they book us, great. If we know what we’re talking about, they will book us. Sales is about positioning your product, I’m not saying fear tactics, but facts. It is literally eating the shingles on a roof, that appears to be a clear fact from all sources I’ve seen. I’ve read dozens, and bookmarked probably 10, and the most recently I could find an impartial scientific/industry group say it didn’t cause damage of some kind was over 10 years ago…were you guys even downstreaming 10 years ago? The point being, information and technology changes, we have to keep up with it if we’re going to make blanket statements about stuff.

Lol you sound just like a politician.
It’s your business you have every right to operate as you see fit . If you see no issue with that line and you don’t feel it’s fear based, to you it’s probably isn’t.
But I can certainly remember when it’s was touted as one of the most effective flyers because it installed fear in people and prompted action

this is the definition of sales, as long as it’s not selling people things they shouldn’t/don’t need…feel how you wish I guess. I’m not a fan of having my integrity questioned, because my goal is to be pretty much beyond reproach. But if the fact is that it is eating their roof, I will let them know that so they are aware, and not being told it won’t hurt it, when that’s been proven incorrect (beyond question in my mind).

I guess we’ve hijacked this thread beyond repair at this point, lol

Would you like to know the orgs that lobbied the insurance companies? Biggest one is out of Florida.

I’m not trying to question your integrity buddy take a step back and read my last post . If you don’t feel like your doing anything shady then your not doing in a predatory manner.
It’s ok to have different view on morality and business decisions. It’s not meant to be offensive

I sincerely apologize if you thought I questioned your integrity. I know you are a straight up guy and that want my intention. I’m not sure if you’ve been in this industry long enough to know how a lot of things are what they are now, but I wouldn’t intentionally besmirch you. I don’t give a lot of apologies, but you got one from me. Now, go do your research lol. Sell those roofs, just use a different angle

The issue we’re having is yours seeing the way you can apply the science to you business and I know the history of that marketing. We’re it came from and who promoted it and how it was promoted. And none of that history is good especially the source of it
I apologize if any of it offended you

Not really ever offended, and no apologies necessary for sure. I guess I didn’t really apply the deep skepticism that many of you have towards anything like that due to the lobbying discussion. I don’t personally see that as applicable when it comes from multiple obviously unrelated entities (like a university microbiology dept.) Everyone’s impression of things is colored by their experiences, which is easy to forget. I guess I didn’t realize how deep that runs with many of you guys. And you’re right, I have no idea the history of it, because in my mind I did the research and developed an educational marketing piece and have no idea if it’s ever been put out there before (not that I think it’s a new idea I came up with either), which it apparently has been, in bad ways. I apologize if I came off a bit hot as well.

Alot goes into how text is read too, which is colored by how we would mean it ourselves… Perspective changes a lot. I guess my perspective on it, is that I’m doing my clients a disservice by not telling them…whether they buy from me or not. I always ask them how old the roof is, and if it was the builder shingles…often I tell them they probably don’t have enough life left to bother washing it, lol. Oddly, some ignore that recommendation because they want to try to ride it out before replacing it, even when I tell them it won’t live to the end of our warranty period for sure…

Here’s what I use - I let them decide. But I close by saying, ā€˜Your roof looks like crap, you should let me clean it,’ lol.

Oh my. Is that part of your packet you give potential clients? What a great idea.

send me your email and I’ll send you the pdf and you can get a few printed up or you may be able to find on GAF site. I like it because it’s from a roofing manf and not me trying to hard sell them. I just keep a few in my truck and if I see or meet with someone who needs just give them one.

I wish I got them like that. This is one I turned down yesterday 6K feet plus 90min away - slate -

He got up to $4500 but I still said no. All these super rich people buy these homes around here hung off the side of a mountain and never think about how they’re going to maintain. I actually wouldn’t have minded this one, but didn’t want all the liability and the logistics about getting into were terrible. Plus I try to never get over an hour away. One of the main reasons I did my truck build was to be able to service these homes, because almost impossible to get trailer into.

Is that walkway really the only access to that big house. Amazon guy must get pissed

No, that’s looking up from the lake. The front just as steep though. I’d hate to be him around some of these mountain communities.

I’m glad we don’t have houses like that around here . With all that wood siding I wouldn’t touch that house either.

yeah, that’s a ā€œwalk awayā€ for sure
