New skid setup?

So the unloader block is just a device that allows flow from the inlet/outlet and allows you to fasten anywhere…?

Correct.

What size is your trailer, @Steve? Sorry if you mentioned it somewhere in here. If so, I must have overlooked it. Thanks!

It’s a 6x10. I would have preferred a 6x12 but I found this on a Facebook for sale group for $250 so I couldn’t pass it up.

$250?!?!?!? Are you serious? What a steal dude. Dang.

Yeah, this woman got divorced and her husband loaned her the trailer to move her stuff out. When she finished with it she told him to come and get it as I understand it he never did, so she just sold it. I saw the post minutes after it went up and picked it up within a few hours. I painted it, stained the deck boards and put new wheels and tires on it. Also had to re-wire all the electrical and put new lights and have a new hitch welded on, but it was still a good price.

No I didn’t … and to be honest I’m actually surprised at how well it is holding up …the reels are very solid with no give at all …I’m still on the fence wether I like them or not … I thought it would save me some floor space which it did but I lost some width so I think it’s a toss up …I am really thinking of going with the two 4gpm machines like @Steve has going on … any suggestions of floor plan is always appriciated … the video of your first rig was awesome !!!

@Steve are these two machines tied together at all times ??? When you want to use them you just fire them up in any way you want or do you have to swap out hoses and things ?

so let me see if im following… when hooking my direct drive washer up to a buffer tank i should start it at half throttle then throttle up after a few seconds when the water is flowing?

That’s what I do. The pump is spinning slower and therefore creates more suction. One other thing is I never completely drain my tank so the units don’t lose prime.

There is a Siamese kit for hooking them together. I have QC couplings at the hose reels so I just attach the kit before the reel and the water from both machines go into one reel. If I use them separately I just hook each machine to it’s own reel.

How do you go about hooking the tank to the pump? what size hose etc

The video I posted above shows the incoming water set up. If you watch it on You Tube, I have a link to the hose I use and the nipple in the description of the video.

@Steve, where did you get the two skids that your GX390’s are mounted on? When I get a trailer I’m hoping to do a similar setup to you. I have a DeWalt 4GPM 4200PSI right now, but when I get a trailer I want to pull it off of the little card and put it on a skid on the trailer, or possibly just bolt it right to the trailer deck with rubber mounts with no skids. I appreciate your video showing how you feed your pumps. Have you ever run one or both of them with the tank half full or less than half full? I’m wondering if I’d be okay with a 65 or 100 gallon buffer tank still feeding the direct drive pump.

From Russ at Southside Equipment in Louisville, KY

Personally, I would go with the skid. They aren’t that expensive, around $50 plus shipping if I remember right. Looks better and I always heard that you shouldn’t mount the motor directly to the trailer, but I can’t remember why, probably vibration.

Yes, actually when I only had one unit I ran it completely dry a couple of times accidentally and never experienced a drop in pressure right up to it going dry. I don’t recommend that though. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Another thing you can do with a 4 gpm pump is set up the pressure washer so that you can feed the pump off the buffer tank or a direct water source. When I had just one machine I had it setup so that I could easily just hook up to the customer’s water if there was sufficient flow. The unloader was plumbed to the buffer tank instead of back to the pump inlet so when I let off the gun fresh water was still running through the pump keeping it cool. But if I had a stupid low output I could fill the buffer tank and feed the pump off of it.

Super great info! Thanks!

How much time should one budget to build a trailer setup. Going to do it in the spring right before business picks up again?

That is open ended and had lots of variables. If I’m building the trailer figure on at least 3 or 4 days. Mounting the equipment and plumbing depends on how much equipment you have. Figure on a day. Lot depends on what your skills are. I can build and fabricate but have a hard time balancing a checkbook.

Took me a day just to measure every thing . Then a day to put stuff on the trailer and move it around 80 or 90 times till I got it where I thought I wanted it. Then another three days to hook it all up. My problem is I have 10 pounds of equipment stuffed into a 5 pound trailer. This winter in thinking of combining my 4 GPM trailer with my 8 gpm trailer. Then taking the extra stuff and making a small 4 GPM PW combo soft wash skid for the pickup truck that I don’t have yet…
