Need help starting up

@Patriotspwashing thank you for your advice, I appreciate it as this thread was to give me ideas to any help regarding starting up. But I do have to agree with @awesomewash2 @Innocentbystander, I want 0 liability to my personal assets and I want to make sure I’m not just a fly by night as I can see myself doing this for a long time.

In regards to @Racer, I’m currently learning from videos and will try to apprentice under someone. Thank you for everyone’s input. I don’t expect to be fed information and I’ll start reading the forums. It would have been nice if someone just ran through the general info though.

Thanks all.

Nick

Nick, We’re not beating you up, but many of us spent 6 - 12 months studying and reading everything we could PRIOR to starting up. I really feel those that spend the time and effort studying before hand are generally more successful. You need some knowledge of chemistry, business, sales and some mechanical knowledge and ability, as well as being willing to work your ass off sometimes to be successful.

Feel free to ask questions, but the more specific you are the better. If you just come on here and say 'I want to be in the powerwash business - what do I need to do?" then responses will vary. The more you help yourself the more help you’ll get.

@Racer I agree with everything you said. I’m knowledgeable in marketing and business, I used to run a 5 figure/month online company before competitors (chinese manufacturers) undercut me to oblivion.

I’m just so lost in what equipment and chemicals I need for residential cleanings, only driveways and sidewalks for now. I plan on only offering those cleanings spring time, then after some experience go into patios, fences, side panels of homes. I want to apprentice before I start as well.

I bought a 4GPM from pressure washers direct. The ball valve they sell is CRAP and froze on me after one use. Everything else was ok. Pressure tek has good equipment and I bought two ball valves there.

In the past few weeks or so Im pretty sure @Racer has been asked, or commented, on concrete cleaning and has sparked quite a bit of chatter for other ppls process.

You clearly havent read very much. Equipment for residential flatwork should take about 10 min of reading to get atleast an idea of what you need.

Why not do an affiliate store and still bring in some of the profit?

@awesomewash2 I did strictly amazon and ebay. Affiliate stores are the worse, they can change commission rates any time (amazon cut it twice this year). Gotta private label, but once the chinese see how much you’re making they’re just gonna come in half as cheap and spend more on advertising within amazon/ebay.

Affiliate marketing can be great, but I completely understand your point about amazon. I was part of the unlimited kindle book venture. I created about 100 very short ebooks that were mostly pictures for children. I would get paid around $1.50 per download and if they got past a percentage of the book. Since my books were short they almost always got to the end. I learned how to easily manipulate the amazon search feature and had everything ranking on the first page. People downloaded my books for free and I made tons of money. I was in the top 3000 authors on amazon and then they ruined the program and I could barely make $20 a month. I have long since deleted all of the books because it was costing me more than what it was worth for my accountant fees.

I can’t stand ebay. They usually side with the seller and are slow to settle disputes. That and the 10% fee makes it hard to profit.

Step one: insurance.

Inarguably.

Or mess something up bad and your business gets crushed before it’s even started.

Insurance, insurance, insurance.

Any suggestions on where to start with Insurance? I consulted my home/auto insurance agent and they don’t write commercial liability. Not much left but cold calling and online quotes,I guess. Any to avoid, in an effort to save time?

What state are you in.

delaware

I use erie insurance but they don’t offer coverage in Delaware. Find an independant broker and see what they can offer

Thanks. Is there a national code for softwash and horizontal surface cleaning, no ladders? We wont be using ladders. I know there is a difference. I have an LLC, a DBA and state license, just need the gli, but dont want to quote the wrong business code.

@squidskc posted his code yesterday i believe. I honestly don’t recall what mine is listed under

Where in NNJ?

@instock Bergen, are you in NNJ?
