If I had only one ladder Id use a 24’. Paint for a living and that is probably the most versatile size, but honestly I’m on a 16’ most of the time. If I had to pick 2, I’d get a 16’ and a 32’.
40’ is rarely used. Just to give an idea of ladder weight, I’m 6’ tall and over 200 lb and 28’ is about when i think ladders start to get heavy. I can whip a 24’ ladder around easy.
