KY 'DIY' mentality

Ok, no worries brother.

Just my two cents…

I am a devout DIY’er myself. However, as I’ve gotten older and started my own business I have learned the value of time. Can I do certain things myself, absolutely! But is it worth my time to do it myself, sometimes not. That is my approach when I face these types of customers. I sell them on the “time” aspect. Would you rather spend your weekend doing something that I can handle for you, or would you rather spend that time with your family and let me handle it for you. I use myself as an example in the process. I have one client that is a Doctor, and he loves to “do his own pressure washing” every year. But his wife has hired me to wash their house and driveway for two years now and have been great customers. I think he is starting to understand that I’m going to do a much better job and he is going to be free to spend time with his wife traveling or what ever else they want to do. My point is, it doesn’t matter if they have money or not TIME IS TIME! Just have to help them see that! Good luck!

Opportunity cost, time they spend preforming a job they can sub out, costs them that time in either relaxation, or preforming a job that earns income.

Exactly.

Good point, I can concentrate more on the time saved aspect. Maybe throw in a Tommy Boy reference.

What ever works for you man!

This is so true. I am in Lexington KY, and I definitely run into this attitude time to time. It’s like listening to that Gap commercial in repeat.

“Anything you can do, I can do better.”

“NO, YOU CAN’T.”

Exactly. “Oh my husband does that” or, “we have a guy”.

What have you found that gets them to realize their ‘husband’ isn’t the ideal person for the job?
