I agree completely. There’s nothing up to this point that I find as intimidating as ponds, especially the unknown neighbor’s pond(s) and overspray. As I stated, “Still need to be extra careful” and “It’s not a save-all, but it can help provide an additional buffer”. It wasn’t put on the table as some “solution”. Just merely an added consideration. 
My intention has been to assess the situation with a high probability of walking away.
Anybody have ponds/fish/non-human-life (not plants) mentioned/listed in their terms and conditions?

Not worth a $500-ish job to potentially be on the hook for a few $5000+ koi fish if they are large. If you can tarp the pond off and it is far enough away from the house we will do it, otherwise I’ll let some other schmuck take that risk.
