Help me diagnose my pressure washer issue

You don’t need a pressure gauge to set your unloader, just the little magnifying glass beside your profile pic…

Mine came from Karcher with 4.5 nozzles. When I tried a 4.0, the engine and pump sounded like they were working too hard and the water flow decreased. I immediately went back to a 4.5.

I don’t have an external bypass, so what other method should I use to set the unloader without a gauge?

Hmmm, I was about to by 3.5 tips. How did you set your unloader with 4.5’s?

I misread “4000psi 3.6 gpm” in your original post as 3,600psi 4gpm. Nozzle charts list a 3.5 nozzle for a 4,000psi 3.5gpm pump, so a 4.5 nozzle is the wrong size. Maybe a 4.0? Nozzle charts list a 4.0 nozzle for my 4,000psi 4gpm Cat pump, but I use a 4.5. A 4.5 gives me 3,400psi at 3,400rpm, lots of water flow, and probably a longer engine and pump life than would a 4.0.

As to how to set the unloader on Karcher’s axial pumps, I could never figure that out. The Karcher manual gives no help. I just kept mine wide open.

Yeah I’ll probably set it wide open too. When it dies I’ll get a new pump.
