For those who clean gutters how do you clean these?

Hey guys so for the guys who clean gutters, I’m looking for tips and tricks to clean these types of gutters. They have a guard on them that only provides about an inch of space. Do you remove the end cap and flush with water? Or use a vacuum? Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Use ball valve and rinse towards downspout. They usually have a catch basin so remove junk

They’re called ‘gutter helmets’ and the gap is usually closer to 1/2" which get’s clogged with garbage.

So any recommendations?

Ball valve would work but I didn’t see any catch basin though. I’m worried it will just go down the downspout. I could probably take the end cap off and gab it when it gets close

Don’t use a ball valve. That’s just dumb. It’s typically best to tell the customer to have the guards removed and installed again when you clean them out. 99.9% of the time this will get you out of having to clean the gutters. If you decide to spray them out, use a trigger gun and a nozzle.

The man hates ball valves! Probably has a Suttner 2315 in his shower.

I’ve fortunately only been called to clean the exterior of these, but if I had to guess, I’d use a garden hose with a spray gun on the end of it while up on an a-frame ladder. Starting closest to down spout, I’d spray water into the crevice directing muck towards the down spout. Work yourself away from the down spout until the gutter is clear. If you have tons of leaves and such in there then I’m at a loss other than pulling the caps/helmets off.

They have a purpose. That purpose is not a trigger gun.

Unfortunately it looks like those are all one piece and you can’t take the covers off. Poor design good luck. Low pressure 0 degree nozzle. Be prepared for quite a mess and make sure you charge accordingly

They have a cap on the end that looks like it can be removed. The entire gutter isn’t clogged actually most of it is clear except for a few sections on each gutter. I was thinking of using a drain jetting kit I have.

We don’t service covered gutters, that’s why their covered so you don’t have to service them….not worth the trouble, I’d walk away. More money washing.

Two years ago a customer asked if I could spray out that 1/2" gap and get the top as it was completely plugged. For the heck of it I bought one of those nifty adjustable nozzle elbows.

Let’s just say after using it with an 8gpm unit I’ll never do that again.:grimacing:

Remove, clean, sell them better gutter guards, collect check.

Those things suck, and if it ains heavy, the water just runs right off the roof…

I had one like that, 2 30 ft runs completely packed up with shingle granules. I used a sewer jet kit from Amazon for $80? Told the guy $175 per hour. Removed downspout elbows put a garbage can under it and just fed the jetter through the gap and it just pulled itself along with my 8 gpm pump. Total pia, 2.5 hours for that and another 100ft of not so badly clogged runs, not exactly what I prefer to do but got the experience so I can say no next time!

at least you learned something!

How exactly are guards like this removed?

I have these on my personal home. Best way I’ve found is to remove the end cap (usually a couple sheet metal screws) and blast them out. Hose with a gilmour gun or your washer ball valve for added effect.
