Support can be helpful when one person isn’t enough.
Mhmm. Without getting super political, what exactly do you believe unions do?
Without getting super politcal? They support one another, generally with a similar goal in mind. More or less what I said above.
I see. I think that was all well and good in the last century but, in today’s world, they seem unnecessary at best and incredibly un-American at worst.
We probably shouldn’t muddy up this page, but, I think the poster above did the right thing in his situation by firmly stating his position on the matter and I just fail to see how a union would have benefitted the situation at all.
@jrich is Canadian… Unions are probably very different up there then down here.
Poster did do the right thing. You’re right. I read to much into it when I saw he had a state job. Where I’m at alot of government jobs belonging to the province are unionized. When he said, “they” asked him to pressure wash for the same wage and he said kick rocks, I took that as him being under a union contract that stated his job duties. I said the union comment because the way I saw it, had he not been in this “hypothetical union” i concluded he was in they could of pushed him into more duties
Long story short it wasn’t necessary. Lesson learned lol
No harm no foul. I didn’t realize you were not in the US so, admittedly, I have no idea how your unions operate. Your unions may not have the disgraceful history and terrible practices that unions here do.
Carry on lol
My PW has fallen by at least 50% this year. I’ll tell you what, with everyone clinching their wallets with this inflation and election uncertainty, I’m seeing a LOT of homeowners either putting it off or searching YouTube/TikTok how to do it themselves. It’s brutal.
If I didn’t also do window cleaning and screen repair I’d be living in my PW trailer right now.
I am actually in a union. I have been pretty active in it. I say that so that I can gripe about them. I’m not pleased with them. I have worked this job 9 years. Started at 28 an hour. Now at 33. We actually struck a few years ago. The BS I have to deal with on a daily basis is ridiculous. Representation is poor, but we pay our cut
Was really looking forward to quitting this year. Maybe next year
Just signs. Nothing more petty in my opinion lol
This year is better than last year for me, but still not like it was a couple of years ago. I notice these days when someone post online asking for pressure washing (Nextdoor and Facebook), they are getting dozens of responses right away. The last house I cleaned, the lady posted on Nextdoor asking about it. She found reviews for me and reached out to me but told me she was absolutely bombarded with people replying to her post and also contacting her through PMs. I saw the day she posted it there was over 20 responses within a few hours.
It’s crazy just how many people around my area have started up pressure washing businesses. This is just a side business for me and I stay plenty busy, so it doesn’t bother me, but I feel for the guys that rely on this business to pay their bills. I know a few guys around my area that do it full time and they said it’s been a struggle this year.
