Certifications: Good Idea or Bad Idea?

I can see where a large enough company could certify their own employees and have it be beneficial to them; such as a level 1 window cleaner for fi$h window cleaning. Kind of like how Walmart certifies there own people on using forklifts or other equipment.

The purpose I would say is to make money for both the ones teaching it and the ones getting certified. That’s the number one reason even though not to many would tell ya straight up like that. It’s just like your business. I hear guys saying all the time that there number one priority is that there customers are happy that they did a good job. Yes that’s great but the number one reason anyone should be in this or any other business is to make money as the top priority. So to answer your question… It’s about making money.

Then after that Education is Important, Marketing your certification is important and raising the Industry standards would fall into the mix because of the Education these certifications should be about.

The problem is the “Con” job one can pull to achieve there goal to make Money. When they tell you that laws were changed because of what they did yet they can’t show any proof, when they say that because of what they did the fines were overturned for many who were previously convicted and again they have no proof not even for themselves who were fined for doing something… Well you get the picture.

Its the Con Job that has to be eliminated.

Maybe I’m being too much of a goody two shoes about the whole thing.

Good intentions aren’t a bad thing. I think some guys truly do these certifications because there intentions are good. Other I think do this to try and sell the Newbies the Brooklyn bridge kind of thing. But unless its a criminal or Civil matter-- I support Certifiactions because it gives people choices that they can always say no to. Spreaking of Certifications I’m going to take the PWNA Enviro Certification course once again to get there certification-- because on my list I want to 1-Market it 2-education reason 3-The price is right 4-my money for this goes to the org I support. I also want to get other certifications in the Enviro field as well from different associations or maybe from different Distributors only as well. I was supposed to take the Sorocco Enviro Certain. This past year at the ACR RT but we had to power wash that week so I missed that opportunity… Maybe next time.
