Cedar Shake House Project

That’s a lot better of advice to give compared to what was previously said.

I’m just not even going to respond… since that’s not what he was asking…

My point exactly. Okay so, I’m regards to what you asked all along, the x jet without a proportioner is 2-1. So in theory yes, if you double the mix, then it should equal the same if you used a 12v. So yes. You will be fine with an x jet

I definitely misread it in a way but my point still stands.

Cool :+1: glad his question was answered…

I figured I would share the end result with everyone. Ended up applying sodium percarbonate with a 12v system at 6-8 ounces per gallon with some surfactant. Let dwell 20 min and rinsed with a fan tip. After rinsing, I nuetralized with oxalic acid and rinsed. Thank you to everyone who provided clarification and insight. Much appreciated! Last picture was roughly three weeks after cleaning. Thanks again.

Excellent :ok_hand:

Looks good. Did you put any stain on it?

Thank you. I will be applying a stain this Friday. I anticipate the home looking like it did right after washing, as the stain is a natural color. The second picture was from yesterday, so it did lighten up a little as I expected. Should really bring the colors out when the oil is applied. I will post an updated picture afterwards.

Final result after staining. Used Exoshield product to seal. Sprayed and back brushed. I would recommend their product… its just a bit expensive. Also used Armstrong products, and would recommend them as well. I should have posted these awhile ago.

We’re you able to stand on the roof to rinse or did you have to use ladders?

And did you have to cover the roof when you sprayed?

Adam, Really nice job. Looks great.

Nevermind, I got answer above.

Thanks… I was pleased with the results. It is certainly a lot more work compared to cleaning a vinyl house!

Nice job.

Did you have to do any repair or replacement? Did you apply one or two coats of stain?

Having seen the before I would have assumed that the shakes under the eaves might have stained a little darker. I am not being critical just storing more information for future use.

Most of the black tannin stains did come out. There were a few shingles that really needed the oil, but the customer did not want to replace them, and functionally, they were fine. We applied one coat as directed with a commercial sprayer and then brushed. Directions mentioned specifically to make sure there is no excess stain left on the surface.

My next challenge is to address the brick at the top of the chimney. Was thinking of trying F9 Efflo… does anyone have experience with additional chemicals for something like that?

Can’t tell real well from Pic but efflo will work if that’s what it is. But in all honesty, you should have done it first, before all the siding work. At this stage, I would almost pass on it and I don’t say that often. Now it’s going to be a HUGE PITA.
