Well, I checked the electrodes, changed the fuel nozzle. Worked great … for a bit. Did some more poking around, and found that I had bad diesel. Changed it out, fired right up … until it didn’t. I’m noticing when I turn on the burner, I don’t always see any activity in the filter bowl, which tells me the fuel isn’t moving. This leads me to believe that the bad diesel had water in it, fouling the pump. So, I plan on changing the pump. Is the pump pressure supposed to be 100 psig? Changing the fuel pump looks pretty straight forward; are there any tricks, or things I need to be mindful of?
@Shine , The fuel will drain out most of the time on mine in the inline fuel filter , take the incoming line off and blow it out via a air gun, do the out flowing as well, . Could be a restriction in the line. Also change the $4 inline fuel filter. Beckett 12volt ? A new pump is around $180 ish. Id try other things before id buy a new pump. Bypass the thermostat, take the green plug off the pump ,put a screw driver in the hole , trigger gun and it should have a strong magnetic hold. Id do cheap stuff then work your way up. How did the electrodes look ? Pointy ,about a 1/4" away from each other?
Wouldn’t you know it, I did as you suggested, blew out the fuel inlet line and now it fires right up. Now I just have to figure out how to get whatever is plugging it up out of there. I’d rather not take the diesel tank out, but there’s worse problems to have. Thanks for the suggestion!
@Shine Id put it on a slope , suck it out with a hand siphon pump or transfer pump and wet vac out the rest, look in with a flashlight to make sure you’ve gotten the culprit and wash on.
BURNER TROUBLESHOOTING MYSTERY - I have exhausted all options outside of spending $500-$1k+ to have Landa figure this out: almost like clockwork, burner stops firing 1 hour into shift; I take a 10-15min break, and it’s good for the rest of the day. During troubleshooting the process I have changed the fuel nozzle, electrodes, and fuel pump. It does smoke lightly from the bottom of the coil, and then faintly when under load. Anyone have any ideas what the problem may be?
I have my own issues brother, so I feel your pain. Having said that, the little pr-15 or pr16 that connects from your unit to line to check for pressure, has that been replaced as well? I’ve replaced mine as part of my mission to restore heat.
Are you talking about the pressure sensor going to the head of the pump? I checked it, no rust, looked good. If that was the issue, though, it wouldn’t fire at all or would be erratic - I would think. My issue is pretty consistent. I was thinking it may be the thermostat …? Anyone have thermostat knowledge to share?
