Battery Recharging Question

I noticed when I jumped it tho, that the negative terminal was sparking a little at first when it started to run. Sorry if these questions are basic, electrical stuff is not my strong suit at all.

Might just have a loose battery cable

What Alex said. take off cables, run the terminal ends over wire wheel on the grinder. What does volt meter say the battery is at

Going to work on it first thing in the morning. I didnt notice any lose cables today but didnt really check, did see a fair amount of rust so good idea on cleaning up wires. Ill update you guys tomorrow to see what I find out!

Battery read 12.65 on volt meter. Tried cleaning terminals. Still no luck. Bought a new battery today and it started right up no problem and didn’t shut off while in bypass. I guess we shall see how long this battery holds up from Walmart. $60, if I get another year that is fine with me!

This is few days old but so you are aware, while voltage can tell you if a battery is charged or not, it is not always an indicator of the battery’s capacity. On newer batteries voltage and capacity are generally pretty closely aligned but as they age that is less and less true. It sounds like that is what you experienced. In the “old days” load testers quickly identified the difference, most shops use conductance testers these days.
