Sounds like your following behind a fly by night service or just a rookie that didn’t know the proper way/tips/soap/gpm to clean. Many times in our industry we are reeducating customers or clearing up misconceptions about (pressure washing). This ain’t the old days we do things quite a bit different now!

Never did an awning, I’m a notyetbie. I have been with a national food chain though and have seen the awnings cleaned with pressure and the only damage in 5 years was a piece of egg crate tile getting blown out and cracked. I didn’t think there was any other way to clean an awning.
Using a pressure washer incorrectly can damage a lot of surfaces that need cleaning, especially canvas or vinyl awnings. The right tips for the wand or “gun” can keep the pressure low and still allow a good rinse. In a perfect world, you want your cleaners and brushes to do most of your work for awnings, not the pressure washer.
