Any Ideas on Quieting Down the Honda GX390?

Heck yeah man. They are getting kinda rare. Luckily this one came from California until a couple years ago when I bought it so not a drop of rust under it.

@Steve, you ever get around to trying out a muffler on your 390’s?

Add a Cherry Bomb muffler?! (Oops. Showing my age again!)

Hot dog /resonator, changes sound of exhaust.
Can be used in addition or instead of muffler if u want a louder sound without going straight through pipes,
It was a tongue in cheek comment but I would be interested to hear if anyone has fitted a modified exhaust that increases power or just changes sound?
I was thinking a while back of fitting a large motorcycle muffler to drop the decibels.

What year Bronco @SurfaceMedic ?

Quite a lot of people use the GX390 in go carts, maybe find a forum for go carting and look there, surely they would have an idea on both noise and performance too

  1. It’s a work in progress (that will never be done) but a lot of fun. Just don’t get as much free time as I’d like to enjoy it. Been sitting in the garage for way too long now. Here’s a few older pics.

They’re making brand new old Broncos now.

My broinlaw just put a 410ci in his. A realrockcrawler done up all pretty. The group does a yearly trip to Katemcy rocks.

True…but they will never be as good as the originals! But I’m a car guy. I’d hate to tell you what I have “invested” in this “toy” that I will never get back. But I guess we all have to have a hobby. I’m interested to see what the new ones will look like, and might even be interested in one. But will still take my 73’ any day!

@SurfaceMedic that’s awesome, that’s a beautiful truck. I love broncos. Had a ‘79 and a ‘87. An old bronco like yours is on my dream truck list! Right next to an ‘82 Toyota pickup and a ‘97 f350.

@PalmettoPW thanks man. She still has a long way to go. I have a laundry list of things that I still want to do. Been trying to get it painted for the last two years but just haven’t been able to stop long enough to make it happen. They are fun. We go to Cruising the Coast every year on the Mississippi coast for a whole week of cruising and cars and I will say, I get a little jealous of my buddy and his 67’ camaro when we are sitting in traffic for hours and I’m burning up in the October heat while he is cruising with his windows up and his A/C running! He has over 100k in his camaro but I get tickled because we always park next to each other and all the women still want to ride in the bronco! It drives him nuts!

Hah. Tell your buddy when he grows up and gets a real vehicle then the women will like him too.

Can you tell me a bit about the power plant?

The 97 f350 PSD’s are friggin Expensive!!! Gas or diesel best ford trucks ever made in my opinion!!

This is my pride and joy

Thanks man. That’s a good looking truck you have as well.

Mine just has a little 351w with a small cam and still running the original 3 speed. I’ve had several of these and this one was still on the column when I bought it and it was smooth. I’ve never had a column shift that wouldn’t hang up from time to time but this one was smooth. Hated to change it, but I’m still young at heart and like to hot rod a little bit so I just moved it to the floor recently. She runs!

@Chesebro yea it’s crazy, they are as much as a truck 10+ years newer. But, Worth every penny. I agree they are the best looking truck that body style. Your truck’s sharp. I like that.

Not yet, but as soon as I get the garage painted, the laundry room remodeled, and the upstairs bathroom re-tiled, I think my wife will let me tinker with my PW exhaust…

Lol…

Short answer is yes and no…

Yes, If it’s bone stock down to the paper air filter.

No, If it’s even lightly modded.

In my case, The truck is a full bolt on truck. Exhaust, Supercharger ect… The truck can be returned back to stock fairly easily…
