Alternative Surfactant for House Washing

Can’t mix what with SH?

oxy clean cant be mixed with SH

It’s a trace amount. My wife mixes it with SH everyday. Myself and other much larger roof cleaners than me have used for years. Can get w/o the oxi too. Many laundry detergents are designed to use with bleach. It’s not my preferred house cleaning surfactant but can be used.

I thin you’re mixing up Oxalic acid with Oxi Clean. Oxi clean is sodium percarbonate. it and SH are both bases or alkalines. If you read the SDS on the detergent I referenced you see that the ph is between 8-9.

I use Dawn and fabulosa for my housewash mix. Never had any problems. I’ve just watched a video on racers rig. Man that’s some setup you got there. Outstanding

@Racer Is Arm and Hammer bleach stable? I tried it and I found it really masked the smell, which is great. Can I mix up a large batch or will it turn the bleach bad over time?

It’s not that great at being bleach stable in my opinion. I had 2 gallons left over from a job so I threw it in the corner and about 7 days later it turned brown and started to gel. I also had a small batch go bad over the weekend. It hadn’t turned brown but there was no signs of life from the bleach.

Interesting. I had a similar experience. I did a batch a couple of days ago and used it today for my patio stones. Didnt see the normal SH reaction to algae and mildew. Figured the A&H weakened it over time?

Guys, I am getting to the end of my rope. I don’t want to house wash with Dawn, but I can’t afford to pay the EXTREME costs of getting chems from pressure tek. I live in Canada.
I know, my problem, not yours.
Whenever I order any pressure washing stuff from the US, I get killed on shipping, it takes forever to arrive, and then I get surprise duty fees on delivery.
Quick example: I ended up paying $145 Canadian to get a J-Rod.

Could you all please reply with a list of bleach stable surfactants? Yes, I have searched. There has to be more out there than Simple Cherry and Elemonator for example.

There are a lot of threads of: ‘I use this product, it worked fine.’

I am specifically looking for bleach stable over time surfactants. My hope is that if I have enough options, I can find a local supplier.

It is like a freaking pressure washer desert up here. We have equipment suppliers, but I can’t find any chems that are specifically bleach stable in Canada.

I have same dramas with shipping Dan, I recently went to see a chemical distributor and he put me on to a ph neutral soap , apparently he sells plenty to local slaughterhouses and they mix it with SH for cleaning and sterilizing.
Im going to give it a run at my house, i hope it rinses ok otherwise I will be back hunting for alternatives so I can avoid getting hammered by delivery costs .
Btw I think I got my jrod for less than u payed ! Canada must really be expensive to import into as you guys are heaps closer to U.S than Australia lol

I actually just reached out to Hotsy, I sent them an email asking if they have any bleach stable surfactants. So hopefully I’ll get a response sometime during this week. Do you know of any of their products that are bleach stable?

I don’t know how it works, but can you carry a drum over the border in your truck?

It seems like all of Chemfax’s Products are for car washing or fleet washing or kitchens and hoods. I appreciate the link, as they are a Canadian company, but do you know if they have the bleach stable surfactant?

I am not sure, but I live about three hours from the Buffalo border. I assume that I would have to pay duties or taxes on anything brought back, not to mention going through customs both ways. If I value my time that is probably not cost-effective.

Im not positive because i dont use their stuff. Im sure they will have something though.

I would still reach out to chemfax… thise are all sub sections of the same industry. They are bound to have something suitable

Shampoo may be stable ? ask our resident chemist

Awesome, thanks. I will give them a try also. If I find something I will post it for the group.

@Maelstrom Are you referring to Car Shampoo or making a joke? Sorry can’t tell.

No idea how long. I used for a good while on roofs but I was always mixing fresh batches so never had any sit longer than a few days if that
