All the Home Advisor hate

HA you pay an annual fee, which up front was about 300. Then you can offer as many services as you want, so you tell them what you’re willing to pay in leads (i.e. 2k) so they send you (and other people) leads and charge you 10 - 40 $ per lead, so you contact the client and give them a quote and hope they pick you over the two other guys that got the lead too.

Google plus allows you to list your business with pictures and a short word description, Yelp does the same thing… The more activity you have from both other people and updating your site the higher you are in the rankings. It’s all free but it helps to have a website or at least a FB page to refer people to.

I tried. I really did. I tried to find a reason to ditch HA. And they even gave me a good starting point. When I signed up, the rep told me that I would get credited for any leads that I couldn’t contact as long as I tried to reach them on two different days with no success. Well, I had about $150 worth of leads that I couldn’t reach, so I called in for a credit. I was told that they don’t credit for that reason. Obviously, I was pissed because that’s what I was originally sold on. After some back and forth, I got my credits. So I started really thinking about the situation and looked up some video reviews of HA from other contractors and of course I wasn’t happy with what i heard.

So that was it. I was cancelling HA, or at least pausing my lead flow until my year was up next April. So the final step before making the call to cancel was to go into my CRM and see how much money I had lost on dead leads from HA. Then I had to re-run the report cuz I knew it had to be wrong. But again, the same result. Including my yearly fee and all the lead fees, I’ve paid HA approximately $1400 this year. I have over $11k worth of work from HA customers. And it’s not low ball work either, it’s all at my normal prices. There’s even 2 or 3 four figure jobs in there. I guess I’m sticking with the HA for time being…

They called me today, I missed them but he said he had some jobs. I plan to wade in carefully and see how it works.

LOL, did you expect him to call you and say he didn’t have any jobs, but give us money anyway.

I was going to look into it since I was down to about 8 jobs but the phone, email social media exploded with leads and then people I bid months ago started calling. MY board is full again… who knew?? Good Luck.
