Residential Business Plan input

hell, can i just build a trailer and join you guys and cover the chapel hill area? the trade seems rather saturated to be honest.

Well, I was bored and on vacation and everyone else are just tater heads.

lemme just fuck up a few houses under yalls name first, then ill go buy equipment and start my own business hahahah. (joking)

@618Pressure Don, I havenā€™t made a habit of giving short answers so I hope you read this. I canā€™t find the first post where I felt like you did about one of the other veterans in the group.

I spoke my mind too on the first post and again on this one. In between that post, this one above, and shortly after Innocent still answered a question that helped me put money in my pocket. Have you ever seen Anchorman? If so, I had the same moment in my head where Vince Vaughnā€™s character said, ā€œDeep in my soul I hate you Ron Burgundyā€¦ but dammit I respect you.ā€ Lol

I had to take a deep breath, laugh it off, and realize that, even though William is a straight shooter and that sometimes gets interpreted as condescending, his answers still come from a place of running a successful business for 20-25 years doing what weā€™re trying to do.

Thatā€™s incredibly important because no matter how good we think we are heā€™s been in business 5 times longer than 90% of us will be in total. @rmcmurry this is important for you to read too. Thatā€™s just a fact of business. You can find it online via reputable sources. 90% of the people you see in this forum who are new in business will be OUT of business in 5 years. Read that as FAILED in the pressure washing/exterior cleaning business.

Don, Iā€™m glad youā€™re here and Iā€™m glad youā€™re in business. Innocent and I are coming from a place of trying to help we just have different approaches, but the info is well intended. Weā€™re all here as business owners trying to help other business owners and should treat it as such. Weā€™re not here as cavemen in a pissing contest.

You said youā€™ve found what Iā€™ve posted helpful. There was a guy named Jim Luke on here who I had a very similar back and forth with as you and Innocent had in this thread and I havenā€™t seen him around here since, but if he had a question I could help with Iā€™d do my best to help despite our little spat.

Why? Innocent did the same thing with me. Iā€™ve made videos for people whoā€™ve had questions, made my phone number available, answered questions via message and email. Why? Because Iā€™ve seen innocent do it time and time again for others. Iā€™m literally just emulating a guy who is in the same business weā€™re in, but heā€™s 20+ years successful at it.

He answered a question yesterday for me about an injector spring I shot to the moon and couldnā€™t find it and recommended a springless one from pressuretek. I called pressuretek immediately because a guy whoā€™s probably forgotten more than I know about this business recommended it.

This forum is here to help you succeed. Andrew out in Boston has fielded questions via facetime and text. I messaged Racer probably daily during my trailer build because my set up was going to be similar and I didnā€™t know how to execute it. The list here goes onā€¦ and onā€¦

Iā€™ll stop beating a dead horse. Again, Iā€™m glad youā€™re here and I wish you unending success. Take a breath, ask another question when you have one and when Innocent answers it know that itā€™s coming from experience even if it reads a little grumpy. Ha!

My entire point is that every time I click a new thread heā€™s there giving advice on something they donā€™t ask. Sometimes he gives great answers. But he can almost never just answer the question. You donā€™t think they know they should have better equipment? They didnā€™t ask you to evaluate their business. Iā€™m not ā€œoffendedā€ by anything he says. Iā€™d bet I have thicker skin than most people here. I just told the guy to stop being condescending every time he replies and to just answer peopleā€™s questions. Stop being such a dick about everything all the time. I could literally show you 25+ replies in the last month where youā€™re not answering someoneā€™s question and giving them a smartass comment that doesnā€™t have shit to do with what they asked. Itā€™s easy to not be a dick and still joke around. But youā€™d rather take the condescending route with everything. Holier than thou is the perfect example of your replies.

Me have big pressure washer! You get bad replies. bangs on chest lololol

Totally didnā€™t see your comment until now @squidskc and I understood everything you just said before I ever even made a post here. He knows what heā€™s talking about. Iā€™m not downplaying his knowledge. I just get tired of seeing people treat others like shit for no reason. We all start out new at something and it doesnā€™t help us when people purposely donā€™t help us and just crack jokes.

My feelings are hurt. Brodie called me a Caveman.:persevere:

In my opinion nothing wrong with being diverse. I keep a pole saw in my trailer and make nice add ons with it. I offer many dif services as well. Everybody has there own way of doing business but without a doubt when I pressure wash a house and do a great job at a fair price they remember me. I let them know about my other services and if and when they need them they call. I dont have all the bells and whistles that these full time p.w guys do. Just a simple 4000 4 pressure washer and direct drive at that. It works for me and leads to int/ext painting, deck sealing and the absolute money maker tile roof painting. Just one of those is worth 50 house washes. Also realtors and prop managers love a one call guy on theyā€™re speed dial. Best of luck on your business plan and go get em

Sorry, bud. I was never talking to you.

You gotta relax some. I spent 4 days in the hospital last August because my ticker was acting up. I didnā€™t believe in stress til then. Chill out and enjoy the forum. Try not to take me to seriously. My wife doesnā€™t. My advice is free. No one has to pay attention to it. A young lady at my church in the mid 80s named Jennettee Robinettee died of cancer in her early 20ā€™s. She wrote a poem called ā€œIf it donā€™t cost nothing then it must be freeā€. Look it up. Good stuff. Her brother played for the KC Royals, but I digress. Tell me what 618 means, stay here 6 months and Iā€™ll give you $100 credit at pressuretek.com. In the mean time, ignore my posts if they get you riled up. Lifeā€™s too short to worry about crap on a forum.

Wake Forest is an untapped market

Last time I checked bud, youā€™re on a public forum giving someone that a lot of us respect grief because you didnā€™t like the answers. If I recall you didnā€™t like the comments the other day when hose length came up. If you donā€™t like the answers just ignore them and pay attention to the ones you do like. No one is forced to come here. Most everyone on here tries to be helpful most the time. But itā€™s a forum, weā€™re allowed to have fun once in awhile. There are lots to choose from.

I live in chapel Hill/Chatham county. WF is too far to be my territory of choice. Iā€™m looking at Pittsboro chapel Hill apex. Maybe Hillsborough

Mark with Superior and my old foreman Jacob with Peak Pressure have Apex wrapped up. Iā€™m clueless on chapel hill area.

I think when you are first starting out you should only offer 1 family of service. At least as far as promotions/advertising goesā€¦ Trying to promote and advertise various occupations is difficult and expensive. Also get one thing down good then add anotherā€¦ For example as a kid I did pressure washing and roof cleaning, later in 83 I got in to plumbing and drain cleaning and let the pressure washing and roof cleaning go. Many years later when the plumbing field got very competitive, I brought back the pressure washing and roof cleaning full time. I never really stopped doing all 4 areas but they traded places on the front burner from time to time depending on the economy and the competition. Of course now after several decades I keep all of it going at the same time. It is much cheaper to advertise the PW because plumbers usually have a much larger budget . So people call me for PW and then they like the job then they ask us to do plumbing. Same with drain cleaning it is cheaper to acquire a customer because a lot of plumbers wonā€™t even do drains Roof cleaning cost more to acquire a customer than PW because the guys will spend big bucks on ads for roof cleaning so I just watch what the competitors doā€¦ If they are pushing plumbing. I push drain cleaning, if they are pushing roof cleaning I am pushing PW/SWā€¦ Why compete with the rotorooters of the world who spend 10 to 12 grand a month on pay per click alone and there is 5 or 6 of them fighting for the customers, when I can just go in a slightly different direction and spend 1000 a month an maybe only really compete with 1 or 2 other guys? Also the big guys have lots of advertising budgets, so some times I take out ads just to force them to have to take bigger ads out. I donā€™t have thier payroll or expenses or loans so it forces them to charge more for their services which in return means I can charge more and still beat them in price. Its great when the big guys have to do 30 grand a month just to meet expenses and you only have to do 4000ā€¦

Pay per click is on my marketing to do list, but I havenā€™t quite made it there. Donā€™t even know where to start. Howā€™d you learn how to do it? It sounds like the return is worth the cost?

Dont know if other cities have this as im new to it but in my local area we have a community web site called next door. It keeps you in your area code. Itā€™s basically a free web classified for your area neighborhoods. Been getting some descent jobs on it. Meeting a realitore tomorrow for some work she has. Check it out if its your area.
