Wilmington NC washers

Have any of you folks washed on figure Eight island? I need some insiteon rates down there. A friend of mine manages several properties on the island and has recently asked me to do all his washing down there. My area is 100 miles west and definitely not the same money as on the island. I don’t wanna sell myself short. I’d love to have a conversation with someone who has done work down there or on a high end gated island/ community on the ocean in NC.

If you’re approaching this business from a “I bet I can squeeze more money out of these rich folks” mindset, that’s pretty rough man. Figure out what you need hourly to cover your overhead, and charge that. Don’t go adjusting your prices based solely on how nice the house is, that’s shady

I don’t think it’s rough at all, I charge as much as I can get away with in wealthy neighbourhoods. Profit grows my business, market rate slows me down

I’d be pretty pissed off if my gas cost more because I was wearing a nice shirt, or if my groceries changed price because I drove up in a newer car. I had on a polo shirt today when I went to get my hair cut, I’d be furious if it had cost more than the guy wearing a t-shirt. Price by the job, not by the customer

Wait til you get that one Google review from someone who finds out you price gouged them, I bet it’ll change your mind

Gas does cost more in certain areas based on the demographics. In my neighborhood area gas is $1.75 gallon. 10 minutes away it’s $1.61. The closest gas station is $1.95 a gallon. People pay for convenience.

Not saying it’s right, I don’t think gouging is good ethics. But demographics matter. Like comparing Texas rates to Florida rates. Seems unfair but it’s geography, competition and demographics.

Yeah, that’s a good point. I know price discrimination isn’t illegal (as long as it’s not based on race/religion/sex/age), but it just feels unethical to me.
The plumbing company I work for is flat-rate, and one of the reasons for that is because price-discrimination is so common in the trades. Now we have cornered a huge section of the affluent market here, because they know we’re going to treat them fairly.

It is gouging when the government says so, until then it is just a market economy - his service(any product) is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
The good part of that equation is that if he raises his price, then the next guy charging their normal price will come off better and win the bids.
And some people may on fact go with the higher price, for whatever reason they may have - convenience, quality perceptions etc…I

Win-win all around? At least we can hope…

I’m not defending it, I’m just pointing out it happens in a lot of things and people often overlook it or don’t think about why it happens.

Some people think paying more = higher quality service and occasionally it does. I mean paying anyone here more than the $99 is going to get you better service (except for IBS’s guy lol)

Demographic profiling is the core of any marketing strategy, show me a Rolls Royce dealership next to a cornfield and I swear I will never mix and match bsp and npt threads ever again lol.

 I guess ya got me there! For me though it’s less about what’s marketed where vs changing prices for the same product. IDK, it’s just personal ethics. Feels wrong so I don’t do it, no worries if anybody feels differently. I’m much more likely to be writing a letter to my senator about mixing thread types lol

There’s also a big difference in changing price for neighborhoods in a given market vs pricing differently for completely different markets. The OP is 100 miles away. If his primary market is a small rural town then yea, I would definitely be pricing differently to drive 100 miles to clean a multi-million beach home on one of the state’s most exclusive islands

You’ll be glad to know I mixed bsp with npt on my new zk1. It went on almost just as far as a npt to npt. It just made a little noise…lol. I’m normally pretty particular about things but almost everyone and every manufacture does it. I’m not saying it’s right but it’s not really an issue either. I was in on that original conversation with Dezmar. I did plan on ordering adapters but never got around to it. If Dez does something it’ll work.

Price it where you’re fair and stay profitable. It doesn’t matter what anyone else charges.
